Leeds (A) 19/10 Build-Up & Matchday Thread

Also brings back memories of the trip to Leeds in about 1992 when we had a thousand or so tickets in the corner, they were going great guns, Vinny Jones was pumping up the neanderthals and they scored a last minute winner. Never been so pleased to lose! It made the thought of getting back to the car one where you might only get a good hiding and not one where you might actually end up on a slab.

Genuine intimidation in the days when you really still could get a battering.

Edit: 1989

We could go all Warnock and leave the keeper off the bench...

We could! How far away is Sondergaard from being a genuine option? And I've always been a Ruddy fan but he's falling off a cliff, probably justifiably through inactivity, quicker than I did.

I've seen him a few times for the 23s, there's ability there but I would not be throwing him into PL games right now.

I'd have preferred us to sign some kind of stock back up keeper during the last window, but you can't have everything. Big John is making too many errors on the rare occasions we call upon him, sadly. The goals against Villa last year and Stoke this year were horrible.

I was at that game but in the Leeds end, as a 7 year old!

One of my earliest football attending memories, first time I'd experienced an atmosphere like that.

1998 was a bit hairy outside too.

I like Leeds as a city but Elland Road is in a right shit area.

Yep was at the 98 one too.

I went to the funeral of the family friend i went to that 1989 Leeds with game a couple of weeks ago. The wake was in the Old Peacock pub right outside the away end, and the scene of where the Leeds fans unleashed carnage on our coaches.

The cunts.

Went to the '89 game and sat in the Leeds main stand as close to the Wolves end as possible.

Four Leeds skinheads sat 2 rows in front and had rolled up copies of an NF newspaper. They hurled racist abuse whenever they could.

I'm glad those days are gone.

I have to provide a balanced view of the Leeds fans that day. Their abuse was both racist and non-racist. It sounded to me like they wanted to give you a good kicking, regardless of your colour, sexual orientation or gender!

I was 14 and spent most of the time scared stiff.

I was at the 1989 game, if I remember. With my dad and brother in with the Leeds fans on the opposite side to the dugouts. Didn't Leeds have Jones and Strachan in midfield that day? Trying to remember their goalscorer, something like Bobby Davison maybe? That could be completely wrong though!

As for the game on Monday, my feeling is that the way Leeds play, with pace and aggressive pressing all over the pitch, it's kind of like our Kryptonite, we always find it hard to cope with teams that play that way. I think the game will be a real struggle for us and cant see us getting a win. I'd be happy with a point.

If we can go back to front quickly and Raul can hold on to it then we can cause them a lot of issues on the counter. We should have plenty of joy against their back 4.

I think the game plan will be fairly clear.

Leeds go man-to-man. We need to resist the press, play one touch-two touch around them and take our chances.

I know everyone has been rimming Leeds this season but we are perfectly set up to take them IMO.

Thankfully having missed the height of hooliganism in grounds, them trying to infiltrate the South Bank in the home game that season is the most face to face violence I've seen in a ground

WE really ought to win this game. Man for man we are miles better than them, although I do like Phillips as a player.

But, as Dire Wolf has said, unless we approach the game with pace, energy and the right sort of aggression, we'll get turned over.
