Leicester 1-0 Wolves: Verdict Thread

State of this thread, seems to happen on here periodically, people with broadly same views on a subject manage to fall out while agreeing with each other.
Almost like some are argumentative just for the sake of it.
It's not what is being said, it's how it's said, we do have a section who are, at best, doom merchants, real glass half empty types where there is no attempt to see any good in anything, the default setting is he / they're crap. never appear in the first team again, waste of money (the latter is the best because it's almost like it's their money). I appreciate we all have different views but take last night, a young striker scores twice, is everyone happy for him, no, we had "The goals themselves weren't difficult finishes: there were two shots that were miles wide", straight from the Deputy Dog school of enthusiasm.
You don't need to be a 'happy clapper' but like the Matchday Thread it comes across as people who are waiting for something to whinge about and seem to enjoy it when it does.

If someone is on ignore on the new site then you can't even see that they've posted, so to me it looks like Deutsch had a meltdown last night, ranting at himself 😀
Wouldn't be the first time...

I just don't get the attitude but it doesn't look like it's ever going to change so I'm fighting a losing battle here.

I think you'e being a bit harsh there, Paul. I paid my ten quid and watched the game, and tried to present a balanced view for those people who didn't watch the game. Never at any time did I say that Silva was "crap," rather that he struck me as being a long, long way from being the 'back up to Raul' and 'generational talent' that has been touted. He took his goals well, but there were also downsides: he's physically weak and - like in the game against Stoke - that meant he lost a lot of challenges. That's why I said it is unfair to judge him until he's grown and strengthened. As I said, that may mean waiting two years.
Obviously, like all Wolves fans, I really hope he does well. But my dispassionate view at this stage is that £35m is a huge amount to pay for potential. As we saw, Liverpool were prepared to let Hoever go for £13m because, good player as he may become, right now it is only potential.

This will get a few 'likes', but really mate it's just Matt Hancock style tone policing, isn't it?

I'm happier with people posting what they really think, I certainly wouldn't want anyone feeling they had to put a fake happy spin on something or alternatively had to suppress something positive for fear it gets 'doom mongered'.

The best thing is just to get the points out and argue them, as the guys did last night. It wasn't a classic haha but they meant it on both sides.

I think we could all do with some perspective; compared to Twitter and some other forums this is a fairly balanced environment with pretty low toxicity and nonsense, isn't it?

Did you just call me Matt Hancock !!!! 😲 (hits the report button, libelous at least )

Nobodies said people cannot post what they think, in fact I've only posted what I think above, I am not suggesting putting a 'happy spin' on everything I'm just saying there is no middle ground with some people their go to starting point is derogatory, for example the entire football world knows we are not adventurous first half, so how can anyone base an argument that we are doomed on the xG or the stats based purely on first halves unless you are trying to be contentious.

There is a programme on TV called What We Do in the Shadows, there is a vampire on there called Colin Robinson who feeds on the negative emotions of his victims, all I'm saying is we do have some Colin Robinsons on here.

I'm not here to put the POV of the 'moaners' across, but I think it's easy to fall into the trap of making out that people's subjective experience of the forum is universal.

You might find it exasperating and draining reading a few Cyber posts, but there will be others who get wound up by his polar opposites. I guess you either engage with or ignore people who have that effect on you. I'm not sure what else is the endgame when we have this raise its head every few weeks?

I must say I find there's hyperboly and inflammatory posting and dragging up stuff on both sides from what I can see.

As someone said yesterday there's probably broad agreement that we're not at our best, and we're all trying to work out (with not much to go on) what's in Nuno's mind, where the new players integrate, and how to get the best out of the undoubted talent we have. Some people are relaxed about our transition, others are more critical about what they see.

I'm not sure there's much to be gained from bemoaning 'energy vampires' (or their opposite equivalent), some people will always come across in a way that winds some others up, obviously you also have issues of gauging tone on a forum.

It's put across as an issue of etiquette or even fan loyalty, when I really don't think it is. For instance, unless someone is Fabio's mum or dad on here, I can't see why anyone would get personally offended by Norman not gushing about his performance last night, for example (I haven't seen the game or goals so have nothing to comment)

I think people are quick to jump down my throat because I have history of non compliance or doom mongering even though when we have a spat it turns out we are not far apart in our view. I am concerned about us this season. We may not be relegation fodder , far from it , but we also do not look like European contenders at the moment. For me the evolution in style is not bearing positive fruit so far. For those who stick me on ignore , I think that's a shame. That's a really easy option rather than debating things through even if you completely disagree. I have no-one on ignore and have no plans too. I may not agree or like what you have said but I wont ignore it. It sparks debate. Otherwise we may as well all be lurchio posters who just watch from afar. Where is the fun in that?

I'd like to think I am . for example I read that and gauge "This bloke is both condescending and patronising at the same time !"

Ah sorry, when I say 'you have issues of gauging tone' I didn't mean you personally, I meant 'you' as in the universal 'you'!

I feel like this season is ripe for a team outside the conventional big boys to do well, it'd be a shame if it was someone like Soton or Everton (or Villa!) rather than us.

I'm not too fixated on final PL position, maybe dropping a few places is the price we pay for affecting a transition during these covid times.

I'd be disappointed if we were much lower than 10th, what I'm really looking for though are green shoots of progress in the second half of the season that bode well for a confident and cohesive challenge for Europe next season

For me I personally wouldn’t be happy with a top half finish, but it’s all relative to what happens. Were we knocking on the door for top 6 but The league was really bunched so we finished 10th but just missed out, did we have a few bad injuries which set us back?

More importantly, were we entertaining. We could have drawn against Leicester, a decent result but it was still boring. Palace was a nice change on that front and that probably got me overly optimistic for the Leicester game.

The result will often paper over the entertainment value for most (not for me, I’ll still call it dull), but if it’s boring and you’re losing then you’re going to be criticised.

Were we actually that good in the second half? I mean we completed some passes so we were better than the first. But Leicester were more than happy to sit deep and let us have the ball. We weren’t exactly forcing them back turning the screw.

We can point to the dodgy penalty, which it was. But at the same time if the game remains 0-0 after 15 mins then what happens afterwards would have been completely different. They probably wouldn’t have sat back in the second half and we may have continued to look useless and not complete a pass. We might have stole a goal and won 1-0, we might have held on for 0-0, we might still have lost. It would all still have been dull.

In the hypothetical world the second penalty happens at 0-0, chances are he probably scores as he doesn’t second guess himself like the first, but that’s irrelevant.

Also in the hypothetical world, if the score is 0-0 i don't think RAN finds himself as exposed as he did when he gave away the penalty. So no penalty, and we go in 0-0 like at Leeds and then 2nd half they are there for the taking.

For all the criticism i don't see our 1st half performance as being much different to many games where we have stifled a side in the first half and then gone on to win in the 2nd. The difference in this instance was an extremely poor referee decisions.

For all the talk of XG, what was Leicester's other than their penalties?

Well that’s why I said it was both hypothetical and irrelevant.

Given the pattern of the game didn’t remotely change then there’s a strong chance it could have! He wasn’t exposed, he messed up an interception (albeit a difficult ball to deal with) and then puts himself in a situation where he then feels he has to make up for it. Nothing to do with being exposed, just inexperienced.

Again, all irrelevant. Could have been 0-0 0-1 1-0. Would have still called it dull (unless something completely different happened in the second half to what happened in reality).

That is fair and realistic. It does not change some of the frustration that we have not addressed our areas that needed cover in Raul and Coady yet have spent 60 odd million. We have seen nothing of Vinny, little of note of Fabio and RAN , whilst showing lots of promise still is learning.

I think regarding transfers there's a clear policy heavily weighted to signing potential.

If we get to the end of the season and none of them have made much of an impact and we've had an underwhelming campaign then questions will probably be asked about the short term sacrifice, but right now we can only call it game by game. You only have to look at the two sides of RAN in two successive performances.

I sense a lot of us are feeling we'll have a stronger and more convincing end to the season, it may be one step forwards, two steps back on occasion till then, the key will be remaining competitive points wise till then. Which to be fair we've done so far, performances notwithstanding

I thought we performed very well against Palace and Sheff Utd. Like all teams in the PL there will be good and bad, we are only a few weeks removed from Liverpool being humped by Villa and Leicester rinsing Citeh on their own patch.
