Let's talk about Nuno....

You can have a different opinion, as can other people. It's what forums are about.
This is a standard response, but the truth is we can see clearly where different opinions lead you! Incidentally, I think anyone should be free to argue their point to the death, minority or majority is irrelevant.

I've said more than my fair share so I'll stick to lurking on this thread as I'll end up on everyone's ignore list otherwise!

Just as the standard response to being challenged for having an overly negative outlook is to claim that a clique is out to get you...

I agree on the creativity and I think that’s down to a few things.

1) We went from 2 inverted or inside running wing backs who would join attacks and create extra attacking threats to 2 outside or down the channel full backs playing wing back. They go outside and out crosses in

2) Not replacing Diogo with an inside forward. Neto, Podence and Adama all play wide and come in from out, or in Adama’s case go out and then further out. With 4 wide players out (2 wide men and 2 wing backs) we have nobody to support Raul. Add to that we played two defensive midfielders who struggle to get forward into goal scoring positions and gone is the fluidity of attack.

This is why I think we struggled early in the season to score and I do think the move to 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 is deliberate but is early.

It also makes sense that we were after the Pepe from Brasil and Hee-Chan from RB Salzburg. Both can play wide but also up front.

I do think Nuno began his evolution but the injuries have hastened it and made it all the more difficult. Understandably he’s struggling.
1) Yes despite being right footed Doc always drove inside and quite often ended up being our second player inside the box.

2) This is a massive issue or has been when we play 5 at the back. I remember talking to the lads at work around October time and it's really weird watching us play 5 now with 2 players left and 2 players right and as you say the defensive midfielders, we basically vacated the midfield and we were left playing the ball around in a circle. Can't remember the game now but there were stills around of our formation and it's baffling to say the least. It left Raul isolated and it was all but impossible to get bodies into the box.

I'm not sure whether the switch to a 4 is deliberate, it's something i thought we should have considered when got promoted but we've not signed a centre half for me who really fits the bill for it.

I must say that, in the main, this thread has been a very good read.
When I saw it yesterday I was a little worried that it could be seen or could have been set as an attack on Wolves and Nuno in particular. It's quite refreshing that the majority of the posters have been able to put forward some very good points.

For me, I do think that this season and the way it has gone has been a culmination of a number of factors. The extended last season, the decisions to sell two players who have been major contributors since our return to the Premier League, an attempt to freshen up how we play so that we aren't as predictable and, of course, the Covid situation. EDIT; and, of course, the injuries...

Despite all of the above we are still in a decent position away from the relegation fight and are blooding a LOT of young players. It has been a clear strategy by the club to sign young, gifted players with a target of development and improvement looking at the long term. This must have also been driven by Nuno but we have found ourselves faced with a number of injuries. Because of this a lot of the young players are having to (try to) prove themselves ahead of schedule and it hasn't always worked so far, be this because of a change of system to suit them, bedding into the system or lack of experience 🤷‍♂️

Would I like us to bring in some experience to help this young squad? Yes...

Do I think it is as easy to do as some have suggested? No...

Can we get back on track with the plan that Fosun set out when they bought us? I bloody hope so!

I do worry a little about Nuno and I hope he can get himself and us through what is clearly a difficult time in his management but again, I believe he can and will.

Call me a "happy clapper" if you like, it's just the way I'm wired. My glass is always half full and I always look for the positives in every situation but that doesn't mean that I can't see that we need to get back into our groove as quickly as possible

It's beginning to look like a book that we've all read a thousand times before, and as devastating as it is, we know how that book ends.

Walks before he’s pushed hopefully.

I don’t think he’s a bad manager, but somethings not right and that isn’t going to get better. So it’s the only option.

Wouldn't surprise me if that's his last game. I don't think he'll be sacked but i wouldn't be at all surprised if he walks. He looks absolutely lost and that can't be good for the players

I've said the same.

He needs a break as he doesn't look right at all.

I bloody love Nuno, but just don’t know where we go - don’t think anyone we get in will be half the manager sadly.

Doesn’t sound like he’s going from his comments after the match. Good, I’d rather we go down with him if it comes to that.

I’m a bit conflicted - we’re all struggling a bit right now, but we still have to turn up to our jobs and perform as best we can - I almost feel he needs a sabbatical - think he is not in the right place right now, but don’t want him leaving full stop.

I don't want him to go at all. But something isn't right with him. Probably he's mentally drained and needs a rest. It would help him if the players actually played for him, rather than the shit show it is at the moment.

5 minutes after that performance and result and he’s banging on about “solutions” again.

Change the fucking record, Nuno.

I want him to stay. I want him to turn it around. But that is not good enough & we can do without the tired cliches.

What do you want him to say?

You get upset at the strangest of things. Nothing he says at this point is going to make anyone feel better.

I think we will just grind our way through the season now. “Back to basics” etc. 5-4-1, break against teams, re-organise. Which is a shame. Won’t be pretty but will improve results.

then re-evaluate in the summer regarding squad, formation, playing style. Needs a big re think that’s for sure

Oh nothing, mate. Telling us all we need to find “solutions” is fantastic insight.
He’s hardly going to give an in depth breakdown of where we went wrong. Are you genuinely getting annoyed because a manager spouts crap at full time? I don’t watch much football these days, but I’m going to hazard a guess that it’s still not unusual. I’d rather he did this that throw his own players under the bus Moutinho style.

That’s best case scenario I think.

I said in the other thread but the owners need to back him, we shouldn't be willing to let Nuno walk in a million years
