Let's talk about Nuno....

I hope he goes with a back four now, especially if Boly is playing in the next game. Let RAN have a run in a position he will be tested too. Give Vitinha/MGW a chance.

I don’t think Nuno necessarily looks too far ahead though. He’ll want to finish the season as strong as possible points wise, I just hope he attacks the last 7 games rather than grinding them out

Just said something similar on the verdict thread, not sure we'll learn too much formation wise without Raul, Neto and our new centre half, but we can about certain players

If Vitinha doesn't play i suspect it means he's already signed, if MGW doesn't he's probably on his way out. Funny old game.

So what happens now?

I don't believe that we were remotely in the relegation conversation, but I'd imagine for all but the weirdos that fear is gone now.

So now what? We've got seven games left, what do you want him to do in terms of approach? How disappointed will you be if we just spend the next 7 games bumbling from game to game? Or are you writing it all off and giving a clean slate in the Summer?

For me, and I feel like I've been saying it for months, but surely to fuck now we can lose the pragmatism for the rest of the season. We were told this season would be a transition to a new style - dominating possession more, creating more chances - but other than the odd half an hour here and there, we can all agree that it's been turgid. Then that turgid has been excused with him having to keep us in the division, but that excuse has gone now.

For me, he's got to decide on his primary system and style, stick to it, home it, and decide who can do it. We've got some good footballers, so let them play good football. Take the opportunity of 7 inconsequential games, and good will in the bank, and actually try the transition that has been talked about since September. Anything else is a fucking waste of a season
yep agree with all that

I've had the vibe from some of the player interviews that suggests the club didn't consider themselves as safe as maybe most of us did.

Havnt heard the interviews but was thinking that from the celebrations for the goal and then after the game.

I think I would be worried if they didn't. It was unlikely but had we lost that we'd have been dragged right into it.

I'm with everybody else re. the rest of the season: give the likes of Silva and MGW a run during the next few fixtures against teams around us. We may as well see what they can do, and keep Neto and Podence's playing times to a minimum as they are clearly both FUBARed.

Coady said much the same in his interview. It’s the Nuno way I think - likes to keep the players on edge.

Wherever you sit personally on pandemic football and whatever you think of the mindset, it's clear that our players and manager haven't enjoyed this season. Last night was the guarantee that they can mentally write it off and go again next year.

I don't think I see the logic in the first bit.
If Nuno doesn’t feel the need to see what he can do I think that’s because he’s already made his mind up and we are signing him. Given his form for Portugal U21s if we were undecided Nuno would surely want to see how he performs in the PL. of course we might have already decided not to sign him but I really don’t think that is the case and hope it isn’t.

With Neto getting injured, you'd think Podence will be shifted across to the left in his more natural position, and hopefully he'll give Vitinha a chance to start some games.

Did anyone else notice the difficulty Podence had 'taking the knee' in his last two games.
I don't think he's right and think he should be rested along with Neto.

Nuno will have to use his squad and injuries may dictate the system he uses.

"like my fridge in the summer with nothing inside it, not broken, but not exactly working either"

I would like to think we maybe aren't quite at the level of expectations that Valencia fans have. They won a league title in 2003, which whilst something Arsenal get mock for (also their last year) is still fairly impressive.

The signings and lack of squad are my issue currently.

The signings, the lack of squad and the underwhelming performances on the pitch...
