Nope. FA have specifically said the officials saw it so it takes something exceptional to intervene. What exceptional needs to be is unclear. Presumably nuclear weapons.

You're all wrong, the man Keys has right plan:L

It still looks like an assault whatever the terminology and it does feel like the powers that be are hiding behind semantics. If what you say is correct then its a nonsense

Law 12 lists the categories of misconduct for which a player may be sent off. These are:

  • Serious foul play
  • Violent conduct
  • Spitting at an opponent or any other person
  • Denying an obvious goal-scoring opportunity with a handball (this does not apply to a goalkeeper within his/her own penalty area)
  • Denying an obvious goal-scoring opportunity with a deliberate foul
  • Using offensive, insulting or abusive language and/or gestures
So in the same circumstances i.e the ball is technically dead as the offside is given before the offence ,if Pickford had punched Van Dijk or spat at him or called him a f**king **nt and threatened him he could have been sent off or received retrospective action. But for attempting to chop him in half, as it was deemed an attempt to get the ball he gets away with it. Nonsense.

"VAR for Merseyside Derby 'didn't know' he could send Pickford off"

"David Coote was the official overseeing VAR"

Matter explained. Time to move on...

Only caught the final 20 mins of the first half but United doing a good job so far. Tuanzebe has performed well. Workmanlike midfield pairing with Fred and McTominay but handling things fine, PSG aren't imposing themselves in the centre enough.

Some questionable tactical decisions by Tuchel. Neymar is playing too far back, look like they are relying on Mbappe's pace as their only outlet right now. Midfield three are very conservative, Danilo is playing so deep a lot of the time he is right on top of the CBs - reminds me of Neves being told to pick the ball up right by Coady at the start of last season.

Stupid OG levels things up, PSG were starting to look really frustrated as well. United suddenly shaky.

Rashford looks to have won it for Utd. They have been good but PSG, bar 10 mins, have been woeful.

Great goal from Rashford!

Both the Man United forwards have been pretty subpar tonight as well, Martial especially. Lots of getting in behind PSG defence and finding space but always wasting it (until now). PSG very slack and very poor at set pieces. Missing Thiago Silva & Marquinhos I suppose. All PSG do is spam low crosses to no effect, not sure why.

Another penalty for ManU . . . they're close to averaging one per game !

Pep names two goalkeepers on the bench to imply his vastly bloated £1bn squad is a bit short.

Real goal disallowed by VAR in the last minute! Right decision.
