Its not an issue with the technology though, it's the morons operating it and making the decisions that's the issue.

We needed a system as refs were making errors, we then put the same refs in charge of the reviews and checks. Its no surprise they still get stuff wrong.

'VAR' or the technology isnt the problem

ItS nOt tHe TeChNoLoGy

We just have to change the rules of the game to accommodate it.

No accommodation was needed for GLT, no inch given no inch taken. VAR takes, takes and takes and gives fuck all.

If you cant see that then then I can't help you.

That's the rule and its implementation, not the tech
No, it's the technology. There aren't enough fps to give the millimetre precision that drawing the lines assumes.

So there needs to be a margin of error, similar to umpires call in cricket.

The rule makers decided the current use, and millimetre precision. Not a computer drawing lines.

It's just too easy to say 'Get rid of VAR' - when it's the rule makers and officials making mistakes still

You've kinda made the point yourself, we changed the rules to accommodate the technology.

The rules were changed poorly

It’s just a confused mess at the moment it’s being treated like an exact science which football isn’t and every ounce of common sense is being drawn out the game.
They use the clear and obvious error mantra all the time, tell me the clear and obvious error in Man Utd disallowed goal? It creates a grey area and a nice big curtain for the refs and Mike Riley to hide behind.

Then the technology is the problem in my opinion. The tech should only enhance what we already have it shouldn't require compromise in any form from the game. That the rules needed changing at any point, successfully or otherwise renders the technology inappropriate to resolve the perceived problem.

So you agree the technology isn't up to the task?
On the offside calls like Podence, and Jota yesterday it can't be 100%. But that doesnt mean get rid of technology.

I've always said it should be used for clear errors. Like a penalty given (or not incorrectly) or a clear offside.

The technology hasnt decided that it must be used as it is now for offsides, that's PGMOL.

There were grey areas before and it was down to one person to make a subjective call. Now we have an additional person to make their own subjective call, and further grey areas when deciding whether or not to use the second person. Or we have black and white calls which the technology isn't able to determine accurately enough.
VAR is a flawed concept, always has been, always will be.

We didnt need to change the rules for armpits, toenails etc, they decided to do that incorrectly. That doesnt mean scrap VAR, just use it properly to make the game better

Which is why it should be used for clear errors. Not grey areas or tight calls. Clear errors.

How they use it is the problem

But you agree that the technology isn't up to the task then?
The task of what they are trying to use it for - No.

But as I've said, I dont think it should be used that way. There is a need for VAR in football, but not in it's current form

Ridiculous thing about the Podence offside if he’d rolled his sleeves up higher the goal would have stood.
That's not how it works, it is an imaginary line. Otherwise everyone would be wearing Cameroon style vests...

I don't think there is. It is fundamentally flawed in that it just swaps one person's opinion for anothers. But I'll leave it there.

If it’s an imaginary line it makes it even worse and part guess work. At what point is the ball played in correlation to the position of Podence.
Conversely if Podence scored with that part of his body where the line was drawn it would be disallowed.

Strange debate.

Saying the technology is the problem is like saying Hawkeye shouldn’t be used definitively for LBW. It isn’t precise, and therefore it isn’t used definitively.

The cameras FPS aren’t accurate so it shouldn’t be used to that level of accuracy.

So poor use of the tech rather than tech being the issue.

For you, is there a scenario whereby the tech improves the game?
