Loan Watch 2020-2021

Quick update from midweek:

Leo Bonatini and Toti Gomes played a full game in a 5-2 win. Gomes got his first goal for the club, but not much to report from Leo. Connor Ronan came on as sub after an hour.

Sweet finish on 3:10, shame about some of the defending:

Niall Ennis came on for Burton for the last half hour to make his debut in a 1-0 defeat at home to Rochdale.

Weekend update:

Ryan Giles - Coventry City, The Championship

Played a full game in a 4-0 defeat at home to Barry Douglas's Blackburn, and had a decent game despite the heavy defeat. First, he teed up a shot that crashed off the post, then had a good shot saved late on with his team 3 down.

Austin Samuels - Bradford City, League Two

Handed his full debut vs Newport starting on the right of a 4-man midfield. Broke forward well at times and had a couple of chances, including a header he nodded wide. Was subbed at HT however with his side losing 2-0.

Terry Taylor - Grimsby Town, League Two

Named as one of three attackers in a 1-1 draw at home to Carlisle. Had a quiet game. Picked up a booking.

Rafa Mir - S.D Huesca, La Liga

A full game, and another goal, in a 4-1 defeat at Sociedad. His goal this time was a firm header from the edge of the area, although he did miss a one-on-one moments earlier. Doesn't look fazed by La Liga, even if his team-mates do.

His miss and goal from 0:19:

Jordao - Famalicao, Portuguese Primeira Liga

Started at home to Boavista and lasted 70 minutes before being subbed off with his side two down. Not the best of looks. On came Leo Campana, though, who won a pen to get them back on track - they then equalised with the last kick of the game.

Tote Gomes and Leo Bonatini - Grasshoppers, Swiss Second Tier

Both played the full game in a 2-1 win. Bonatini hit the post early on after getting in behind the defence and bearing down on goal.

Jackson Smith - Frickley Athletic, Northern Premier League

A first clean sheet in a 4-0 win.

Jamie Pardington - Dulwich Hamlet, National League South

Made a fine save early on but couldn't stop his side going out of the FA Cup to Eastbourne 1-0.

On as sub: Niall Ennis came on for the last 15 minutes for Burton in a 1-1 draw but couldn't make a difference.

Unused subs: Ronan, Wang

Not in squad: Gibbs-White, Sanderson, Sarkic

No game: Herc, Vinagre.

Good work as ever Sedge.

Why the fucking hell do teams do this, seriously.

He has literally never played there for any of our teams.

I don't know what's more annoying, Samuels playing as a winger or Ronan not getting a start.

I don't get the Connor Ronan thing.

Throughout every loan spell he's ever had (and to be fair, with us too), he's either been the best player on the pitch or is nowhere near the team. I don't think his skillset is that specialised as to make him not worth picking half the time, and he always seems to say and do the right thing, so it's not an attitude problem. So what is it?

Sanderson has a start tonight for Sunderland.

Ennis has also started for Burton and set up their first goal.

A quick midweek update:

Ryan Giles played 67 minutes of a 2-0 defeat at Boro, while Dion Sanderson played his first 90 in a while, playing in a back three in Sunderland's 2-2 draw at Rochdale.

Niall Ennis won his first start and grabbed an assist, a nice touch back to tee up his team mate in a 2-2 draw at Posh. He was subbed halfway through the second half. Austin Samuels came on for the last 15 minutes, for a centre forward, in a 1-0 defeat at Bolton.

Terry Taylor played another 90 minutes in Grimsby's 1-0 defeat at Forest Green and was booked for diving as he tried to win a penalty in the last minute...

Ruben Vinagre got a taste of CL action with his 25-minute cameo in their 2-0 defeat at Porto, as DW mentioned.

And Leo Bonatini's grabbed the winner for Grasshoppers tonight to send them top.

Rafa Mir causing Real all sorts of trouble in behind.

Jordão and Campana both on the bench tonight for Famalicão Vs Braga. Marcelo Trotta starting ahead of Campana...

From the weekend:

Ryan Giles - Coventry City, The Championship

A full game in a fine 3-2 win over league leaders Reading. Wasn’t really involved in any of the goals but had a shot go over and also teed up a teammate who headed over.

Niall Ennis - Burton Albion, League One

Rewarded for his midweek assist with a start at home to Blackpool. Set up a chance early on following some good work but it was blazed over. Subbed after 57 mins. Lost 2-1.

Austin Samuels - Bradford City, League Two

Given another start at Barrow, as one of the strikers in a 4-4-2 this time. Had a quiet game, though, as was subbed off after an hour with his side losing 1-0.

Terry Taylor - Grimsby Town, League Two

Another 90 minutes in central midfield in a goalless draw with Stevenage.

Ruben Vinagre - Olympiacos, Greek Superleague

Played his first 90 minutes in a 2-0 win as the LB in a 4-2-3-1.

Rafa Mir - S.D Huesca, La Liga

Played 90 minutes at Real Madrid and had a strong game despite the 4-1 scoreline. Spun Militao early on only to crash a shot into the side-netting. Put in a fine ball from the left later on to assist a consolation goal.

Tote Gomes, Connor Ronan and Leo Bonatini - Grasshoppers, Swiss Second Tier

Gomes and Ronan played full games in a 1-1 draw with third-placed Thun, while Bonatini was subbed after 77 minutes. The latter wasn't involved in much but Ronan showed some nice movement to fashion a chance for himself which he crashed over from 25 yards. Gomes also found himself on a late Stearman-esque run up the pitch from which he could have earned a penalty, but to no avail.

Jamie Pardington - Dulwich Hamlet

Kept a clean sheet in a 0-0 with Chelmsford.

Jackson Smith - Frickley Athletic

Saved a pen and got MOTM but it wasn’t enough to stop his team losing 2-1 vs Hyde.

Mir seems to be doing quite well. Not that I expect him to have a career here but we could make a decent profit out of him

May get a few pelters for this but he might have done a job as back up to Raul before we signed Silva. Looks very comfortable indeed in La Liga, although still early days.
