Board Game recommendations

We were given a really interesting game, but you need the internet and a mobile phone to play it!
Called 'OUTSMARTED!'
You get 6 little characters and use a dice to move around the board, but the questions appear on your phone once you download the app, which has really cool graphics and the questions are bang up to date On the day we played it (Sunday) a question was asked about an event that only happened the previous Friday!!
Objective is to race around the board collecting the most keys.
Only played it once but it seemed really good fun.

That game was selling tons around Christmas, they saturated Facebook with an ad campaign. It looks okay, my only gripe is that for me the whole enjoyment of board games is the opportunity to get everyone off their phones and technology for a couple of hours. It's a big part of the ethos behind our game.

Played a few games of these which were good:

Skull - we just used a deck of cards to play it. Quick and fun bluffing game

Unmatched: Cobble and Fog - movement/attack board game, takes a game to get going then you really get into it

For Sale - again we just used a deck of cards. Reminded me of trumps a little. You have to bid on money then use the money to bid on properties. Bit of bluffing with it. Quite quick to play

So this game is an absolute masterpiece. If you are into your history (@Paddingtonwolf I'm thinking of you), I truly think it is a must have game. Fairly easy to learn, but very, very difficult to master. It is only for 2 players though. You really need to think, because the cards you play can either benefit you or your opponent, and if you have a hand of cards that help them, it forces some very tricky decisions. It is a sublime game.

I will have a look out for it in the games shop at Grand Central mall next time I am in town. They usually carry a very comprehensive stock of board games. I think they are an independent so I can mention strong point to them if you want me to.

You should definitely see if they have it. For about 15 years running it was voted as the best game ever made. It lost that spot recently to Brass Birmingham, but is still on every board game reviewers list as a an all time classic.

As for mentioning our game, that would be amazing. As yet, we haven't tried getting it out overseas, mainly because about 10% of the categories are very UK centric. Selling it in the USA and other English language countries is one of our targets for this year. We've been attending seminars on exporting in preparation. It's quite daunting!

It was a really good event, very friendly. There weren't any big new releases on show that I noticed, I guess those will be more on display at the UK Games Expo in June. AireCon seems to be very much a play event rather than an exhibition event, so there were 3 big open gaming areas that were full most of the time. Gaming guru Rodney Smith was there, if you've ever watched a how to play video on YouTube it's probably his Watch It Played channel that's done it.

Probably not to everyone's taste, and very definitely reminds you a little bit of playing toy soldiers when you were a kid, but this is actually a terrific strategy game. A very simple intro into wargames, but a ton of thinking needed to be any good at it. 16 historical scenarios, including Pegasus Bridge, Pointe du Hoc, Arnhem, Sword Beach etc. Gameplay revolves around a hand of cards that allow you activate a set number of units in certain sections of the map, and earning victory points by capturing objectives and wiping out enemy units.

I've only played it a couple of times and after the first time I wasn't convinced. After the 2nd play my opinion totally changed. Way more depth and strategy than I first thought, and although, like I said it is a bit toy soldierish, my other half somewhat surprisingly really enjoyed it. If you've got kids it is a pretty easy game for them to get into and probably a good history learning tool too!
