Dragging this thread back up having been playing a couple of brilliant games over the holiday period. First one is a game called Wingspan, which I really don't know how to describe except that it's ace. It's a card based engine-building game, basically meaning you're trying to play cards that fulfill different roles to score points. Sounds confusing, but it is dead easy to pick up and great fun to play.
And then any of the games in the Undaunted series are highly recommended, though I have yet to properly try out Undaunted Stalingrad. Undaunted Normandy, North Africa and Reinforcements are terrific. Deck building strategy games, the Undaunted series is brilliant.
I also was bought Sniper Elite: The Board Game but have yet to play that one. Based on the video games it's what is known as a hidden movement game, a bit like the Jaws boardgames. One player is the sniper, charting their movement on a secret hidden board and the other (up to 3) players control German patrols trying to detect and eliminate the sniper. It looks great fun and has had fantastic reviews.
