Clarence Mitchell, spokesman for Madeleine’s parents Gerry and Kate McCann, said: 'Our private investigators are aware of the reports from India over the weekend about a possible sighting of Madeleine.
'We are liaising with the Indian authorities over the incident and await the results of the DNA test

Surely, if they are going to the trouble of doing DNA test then there has got to be a good chance that it's her?

You can only hope, cant you !

I can't give too much away but the girl is no longer with us.

Other sources suggest though that its not true and not to take it to seriously, hopefully it is her but im not convinced it will be.

One can only hope, but it has been over four years since she was taken, and there have been no sign of a breakthrough.

Inside knowledge from someone who is very close to the senior investigator of the case.

I can't go into details though. Why would I lie?

I wasnt doubting you, I have thought that from the start, just didnt want to believe it !

DW - If you are correct (and I have no reason to doubt you), will the details come out soon?

Very sad if true, when I heard of the reports from India I was very hopeful it was her

I strongly doubt it.

It can't be proven about it in a court of law, partly because the Portuguese authorities are amazingly incompetent, but suffice to say the two huge clues - "THEY've taken her" and the traces found in the rental car tell you who was responsible.

The car rental company did it?

If it can't be proven in a court of law it is because there are sufficient doubts about any evidence and as such any opinion about it is opinion. The two matters you have referred to do not tell us who was responsible only who some think are responsible. This sort of stuff is drifting into the realm of consipracy theory. The 'blood in the car' evidence has been known about for 4 years and in that time a whole host of theories have been put forward, many completely opposite to each other.

In terms of any comments made by the McCanns, the couple were the central characters in a media storm and if their every word is disected and presented as evidence of their guilt they would stand no chance.

Exactly, zero chance of a fair trial and because of the ineptitude of the initial investigation, crucial evidence was not picked up or destroyed.

I'm no conspiracy theorist, I believe that 9/11 happened as reported, that JFK was shot by a lone gunman, that the Columbus disaster was exactly that, that Elvis is dead, etc. Just from what I have been told by a very well connected person that she is dead and they know who was responsible, but proving it would be almost impossible.

ps I am a conspiracy theorist and believe Elvis is alive and well and busking in Dagenham.

Perhaps. I have no reason to doubt my source and it's pretty much without doubt that the Portuguese authorities handled it awfully.

The thing is, my friend, I know how much you love your kids - if someone took Jude, would you ever say "THEY've taken him?". What an odd thing to say. Would you ever leave him on his own (ignoring for now that it isn't possible because of his circumstances, but still) in a foreign country, an apartment that you don't own, and essentially go on the piss with your mates?

None of it adds up.

Which surely is a crime all in itself.
I barely leave my kids alone in the backyard, let alone a foreign country, which makes the whole "McCann" thing really stink beyond belief.

The use of language is not an exact science - people say lots of things that they don't mean to say particularly under stress. I place absolutely no significance on those words, there are many cases of people explicitly admitting to crimes they haven't committed because they have been placed under stress.

I definitely agree with the second part, they left their children - but saying thet are responsible in the same breath as the blood in the hire car 'evidence' infers not only were they responsible for leaving her alone but that they were also responsible directly for her death and that is a big leap.

It's been said time and again no doubt, but if this pair were not fairly well-to-do and middle class, they'd have been slaughtered.
