Man City 4-1 Wolves: Verdict Thread

It sort of ties in with something I remember being said last season, think by Coady in a post match interview, where they said the slow starts were generally by design to get a feel for the game rather than storming in head first. Which is a nonsense too isn't it? You've got all the resources in the world to scout your opponents at this level and be fairly certain how they're going to approach the game, so you set your team up to play that from the off, not start every game with a blank slate and see how it's gone after half an hour.
I don't know about last season but Coady said that this season after the first Leeds game. Which made sense for that match with them being new to the league and playing Bielsaball. It doesn't make sense against Southampton and Newcastle teams in poor form, where obvoiusly you need to be mindful of their strengths, but are entitled to feel confident that you are the better side.

I also don't agree with it's how we've played for the last 3 seasons. Yes, being solid, working our way into the game and coming on strong in the last 25 minutes has always been the tactic, but in doing that we conceded few chances and agressively closed down space and passing lanes in our own half. Dull and unnecessarily conservative on occasion, but at least solid. That's not the case now.

Might have muddled my time line then and it was from that Leeds game, pretty sure it was Coady, but even then having them as newly promoted is no excuse, you'll get all the footage of their Championship games for the last few years to analyse just as easily as Premier League teams.

There's always been the same general approach of conservatism, solidity and picking your moments to be more adventurous but as you say it felt a lot more structured in previous years, this last 12 months it seems to have become increasingly passive and disjointed so it looks a lot more desperate than it usually did before. There have also been increasing numbers of errors, both systemic and individual, which destroy the solidity that approach is reliant upon so to keep blindly ploughing that furrow when there is a building case of evidence that it's no longer working seems bizarre. Added to that you have the short promising spells of this new more assertive approach, though it's not all been plain sailing by any means, which tends to look far more effective than the approach it's replacing then it makes it all the more frustrating that they keep reverting back to this flawed version of what went before.

We wont play a better team this season so lets go forward. City are probably the best team in the world at the moment so no real shame in that defeat. Shame we collapsed in the last 11 minutes though. If you watch Sky sports news , according to them Man City ar the only team in existance, and Paul Merson is a cunt.(my opinion ).

I'm sure you mean well mate, but I'd take it more seriously if good-natured souls like yourself ever 'tried' with the others on here who spend plenty of time engaged in sniping and bitching. But you never do.

How many times does Jinky get 'you love it when we lose' on matchday? How much sniping and 'in jokes' do Cyber or Dire Wolf encounter daily? Not a peep from other posters when that happens.

When I see those who enjoy a dig at their expense getting a finger wagging then I'll accept one myself, OK? And if you or the other good Samaritans aren't prepared to be even-handed then I'd just leave the whole topic well alone👍
I like to think we get along. But I don't mind when I get challenged on stuff, nor should you. It's a discussion. It shouldn't be a problem.

There are some people on here who are utter pricks for the sake of it, I wouldn't put you in that bracket.

I genuinely would prefer it if people just said what they want and others either agreed or disagreed with it, but that's not how it works. I've never said I'm blameless either, but I don't just focus on one person and dog their every move, which I have to say happens to me plenty (boo hoo I know)

We all tend to see things mainly from our own perspectives, but I only bring up this stuff because others harp on about negativity and atmosphere and I'm not going to watch my p's and q's or tone when plenty of others don't.

I do like an argument and I should undoubtedly shut the F up more, but no-one's perfect. There are just some usernames who will never get on and are like red rags to others, and although I'm loathe to do it personally, the ignore function for some of us is probably the best way to retain sanity.

I don't think we collapsed at the end, it's just that man city decided to score rather than miss

Alex Ferguson used to say 'pressure was cumulative or something to that extent. We saw that last night. Watching in isolation from this board I was pleased with some elements of our play. Nearly stole a 2nd goal but ultimately got punished in the end. City have hit that terrifying brilliance we have seen from Bayern domestically previously.

I think sometimes it's creating problems where there aren't any.

I'm big enough and James Henry nosed enough to take a few lumps, it doesn't bother me at all. I like talking to you.

I love you all really. If several people are giving me a heads up I'm not stupid/arrogant enough to think they're all wrong and I'm right all the time. I'll strive for more self-awareness

Just my two pennorth PK - I think your views are valid and mostly well argued, I agree with some and not with others.

you do go on a bit though, after you’ve made your point. seven posts where three would do.

The forum would be a nicer place with less of the hassles. (That’s not just you though, I’m sure some would include me in that)

This is the nub imo, its not just PK obviously but sometimes the tit for tat disagreements seem to go on forever without getting anywhere and quite frankly its very tedious.

What do you mean - "really"? FFS you should never, ever go into a game, frightened of the opposition. No matter who you are and who you are playing. Our team are not a bunch of Sunday league players, you know. They're experienced internationals in many cases! It's Nuno's job, any manager's job, to motivate the team to believe they can beat anyone. He clearly is not achieving that and will no doubt point to mistakes for the City goals, when the harsh truth is our approach to games is all wrong. Have a go in a professionally, measured way, utilising the undoubted talents we have at our disposal. But to be frightened of the opposition, no matter who they are, is criminal. Seriously, I'd like to understand where you're coming from with that response?
Are you related to general Custer by any chance?

Well I have spent years following wolves, and frankly I think I have seen it all.
So, as I never ever go near the match day thread and rarely on the verdict thread, I kinda feel I am entitled to a quickie,(ain't we all).
So.... Anyone who is spouting that we are a top four, top six side, needs some rehab.
Anyone who expected, apart from with the same luck you get when winning the lottery that we would turn city over last night, join the same queue.
We have had four weeks pre season and player holidays between our last Europa game last season and this seasons kick off, we are over the moon at being jam full of international players who live in wolves, but with their families a zillion miles away, ....who thought that corona would stop them seeing and being with their own.?
Example we have Neves who could not be at the birth of his child and has still not ever seen the baby in the flesh or held him\her in his arms, yet bless the fucker he is playing like a saint.
We bought new players and sold some, OK Jota is still up for discussion but Doc was a gimme.
We have had to change, our style, way of playing, or Huddersfield with a back eleven would always fuck us big time, we have players (new) stuck alone in hotels in wolvo, now be fair, living in wolvo with a lot of compatriots is OK, but Napoleon solo, fuck off, its a shit hole unless you are a wolves player or some famous twat, so don't come the big cheese that it is the centre of the universe, or you will get laughed at.
Ok, may be for you, but in reality for a foreigner....the back streets of Napoli have a load more to offer, if you have a bullet proof vest.
So what am I waffling on about?...simple ....after two years injury free we have finally had our share, and a monster in the shape of Raul.
We have never had a settled team due to injuries, a shit house fixture schedule, and the arse that is corona, BUT.........
We ain't getting relegated, OK so we ain't winning the champions league,
We had a shit run which scared us all, a bit like Liverpool and arsenal and Tottenham and ....so in four season we had a bit of a blip, a premier league , Europa blip
So why the fuck are we moaning that last night we went 80 minutes with the worlds best team, and tired, fucked up, !mostly due to tired concentration.... Who cares
We have boys and men out there who have, sadly, and no cause of their own, some serious worries outside of football, so give the fuckers a break.
Next season when this shit is all over they will repay you.

Pavlo what a great summary that is.

As posted several posts above, you do remember that is how we set up against them last season, with quite resounding success I might add (FFS :) )
No one has said we were frightened of the opposition, we often set up in a similar fashion regardless of the opposition, the fact we played a team who up until that point hadn't lost in 20 straight games should have been a factor to be wary of don't you think? What do you think would have happened if we'd have adopted a gung-ho attitude last night 3 or 4 nil down after half an hour and a final score would have had to have been written in letters by the side of the number on the vidiprinter.
The crux of the matter is we are playing sub par, every player out there (apart from Rui ) and we had the unfortunate luck to play one of the best sides in the world who on the night where stunning as I said before their pressing when Coady got the ball was like an Olympic sprint from City's players,3 or 4 players on Neto and Traore when they had the ball, It would have been a joy to watch had it not been us In fact I bet Pep was furious they had 80%+ possession for most of the first half and only 10 shots !
Not quite you say "to-mart-o", I say "to-mate-o" but...
I said "Have a go in a professionally, measured way, utilising the undoubted talents we have at our disposal." You read "gung ho".
Funny that.

Good post to be fair. Particularly the bit about the players and their families. I've said it a few times myself. It's a big factor, especially for our foreign players (which there are a lot). Even Pep said it in his interview. November, December, January and February in England is hell. He's bloody correct. It is for folk who are from warmer climes like Spain and Portugal. Before this shitshow Brits made their way to those warmer climes in the winter. No one in their right mind from Spain or Portugal books a winter holiday here!
