Man Utd 1-0 Wolves: Verdict thread

Defensively we are fine at the moment - was surprised by the move of Coady to the right, but it made sense & worked.

We know where the problem is up front - pretty sure that Diego Costa isn't the answer
Asking the question. Who is out there for sale at reasonable money who is? I can't see a downside to Costa apart from does Nuno want him in our team? Remember Raul is our striker, and getting anyone in on the long term means he isn't number one anymore, plus Silva is supposedly his long term replacement.
For me Costa ticks every box. Available on a free, doesn't want a long term contract, is an utter bastard to play against, scores goals for fun, is very good with young players. Maybe it's only his attitude to defenders on the pitch, but for me that is an upside.

Don't really have an answer for that - as for Costa scoring for fun he's not played or scored massively in the last 3 !/2 yrs for Atletico.

If he agrees a reasonable wage then not totally against a short term deal, but not perfect.

He hasn't played much for sure, but you do not lose the goal scoring instincts he has, or the craft he's got either. Short term deal only for me. He wants to go to Brazil, USA or China long term anyway, so for me either short term contract, or pay as you play till the end of the season max. Transfer is gaining real traction on SM, but it needs E&S or Fabrizio to confirm for me to believe it's happening. I'm sure we'll hear one way or the other Jan 1st onwards. Quicker the better for me..

Wouldnt lose any sleep over his thoughts, hear him regular on the radio and you are right he is sanctimonious at the best of times, thinks he is the next Tim Vickery when in fact his knowledge is no greater then most people on here.

As it is, we just ran out of gas, we had no outlet ball in the last 20 minutes as Traore was knackered plus I think Podence got a knock in the first couple of minutes after he came on which made him a passenger and Silva doesnt have the nous yet to buy a free kick to relieve the pressure, plus the two wing backs who were excellant were showing signs of cramp in the last 10 minutes and couldnt get up in support.

(Also the late kick off meant it was past their usual bedtime for most of the kids)
Anyone with the Delaney surname shouldn't be trusted when it comes to football

I felt sad, if that's the word for Saiss last night when the ball deflected off him for the goal, his expression said it all.
He may not be the most talented but my word no one can ever question his commitment to the cause.

Going back to Adama, I think we have to decide what he is.

If he’s a forward, he needs to score the occasional goal - he hasn’t scored in over a year.

If he’s playing wide in a 3 (he still needs to score goals - Mane does!!) - he needs to do more off the ball. He doesn’t actually ever run unless the ball is at his feet.

I think “luxury” players like Adama and Podence stand out more when you’re not winning.

Liverpool fans completely forgot Firminho’s goal scoring record, when they were humping everyone 5-0 every week.

Beginning of this season - shock - Firminho was in the spotlight.

Vey good, but very very harsh on Miguel there, no matter what you think of his journalism least he is honest.

Read the book Champagne Football over Christmas, which covered the other cunt, was very good, didnt think my loathing of the man could get any lower until I read that. If he isnt up before the courts this year will be very surprised.

I'm half way through it. Genuinely shocked too.
I knew he was inept but my God, not only was he inept but he was also a pathological liar and a dipso by the sounds of how he behaved in Poland during Euro 2012.
Totally agree about the courts.
Just read today that the FAI are paying Ashley's Sports Direct 100k per month for the next 5 years.....

I got this for Christmas - looking forward to reading it!

Costa is finished at any decent level - woeful for a long time now.
With respect that’s nonsense. He has strength attitude and ability. I would take one Costa now over a Fabio tvm . That will change in one or two years but time is of the essence

Righto. He's offered pretty much bugger all since he left Chelsea and has been downright appalling in a team and system that was absolutely made for him.

Let’s sign him and we can continue this in 6 months then.

There must a reason he was allowed to cancel his contract early rather than let it run down in 6 months time. If he could still offer something to AM I don't think it would have happened

Because he's absolutely goosed at any decent level. Brilliant player at his best, but his body is shot. It isn't a coincidence that they've improved immeasurably by setting him aside this season and having someone up top who can actually move and create space for others.

To be fair he's had injuries that have kept him out. Without spending a ton of money and long term contract there isn't much out there that could offer goal scoring quality and craft like Costa could. I'm sure if we do sign him and he passes medicals he could do a great job for us in the short term. Of course Nuno might not even want him, but i'm sure he understands the importance and speed of getting a striker in.
Hell, he might have even chosen someone completely off everyones radar already. Who knows.

After thinking a lot about last nights game i can't be anything other than optimistic about the future. Obviously there's lots to work on imo such as we need players for the here and now just to help us pick up points and Nuno needs to find a way of getting the best out of the players we have in an attacking sense but we have some serious talent ready to bloom and i want to see more of them.

Personally if we play as we have done recently and possibly improve as i think we will i'm happy with where we are this season taking all things into account. This wouldn't have been the case in the last 2 seasons as i was sure we had a squad capable of finishing in the top 6/7 and had we not done so i think i would have classed that as failure. I would say i wanted that again this season and had everything gone to plan we could have been right up there and possibly still will be come the end but i'm ok with top 10 and improvements as the season goes on. Obviously if that doesn't happen i'll revisit what happened come the end.

Usually i would be fuming after we have lost, sometimes i think about it far longer than i should and had Rashford scored that goal in last seasons fixture no doubt i would have been seriously pissed off coming out of Old Trafford but last night felt different, it felt like the future and the next chapter was just beginning in a strange way with KJH and RAN both looking excellent, Vitinha slotting in well and several others showing that they have bright futures, hopefully here.

Obviously we need to pick up points now and a striker is a must in January, we possibly would have won a few more games recently with a more seasoned striker but the future of the club and the players looks quite bright if you ask me, yes that takes looking at the long game and football fans definitely aren't good at that but imo with players coming back, others maturing and hopefully better players being signed next season and beyond could be very interesting.
