Moment of truth, again, again

If we can get some players in then for me it should be a Dicko-esque striker and a number 10 but only if they are as good/better as our current players in that position.

We need an upgrade on Edwards. Our link up play would be so much better with someone who actually has some technical ability to go along with the engine.

I agree an Edwards upgrade would be great but finding one is another matter, I think that kind of player epecially one who is going to definitely be better is likely to cost at least 2-3 million and I'm not sure we will spend that kind of money on one player. I'm still a bit cheesed off that Jacobs hasn't had a proper go.....and yes I know he's been poor so far this season but tbf he's had hardly any game time never mind a run in the team, don't think we will be seeing much of him any more.

If we don't get up though, what sort of position would this spending leave us in? Would it leave us unable to spend in the summer, or potentially even attract free signings due to wage budgets etc?

I don't think Jacobs lack of appearances is just down to not being that great when he has got on the pitch. There has to be some other issues for him to be so far away from challenging. Whether that is attitude or application on the training pitch.

As for paying 2-3 Mill, I think we would especially after being close to spending that on Delort.

Still got one more year of parachute money, Doyle, Johnson and Foley all off the wage bill in the summer, should be ok in the short term.

I don't think any of them will be Wolves players by the end of January.

Saunders aside, Morgan has always made money available for players. More money can't use have been spent at times or it could have been spent more wisely but supporters of most clubs would feel the same.

Wolves dropped two divisions and have not suffered a financial meltdown - Portsmouth and Leeds for example would not be in the position they are now if Morgan had been there. He may not be perfect but he has consistently shown a commitment to the club on and off the field and has been a damn sight more effective an owner than Sir Jack.

According to someone on the Mix, Jacobs has been turning up late for training and missing team meetings. Apparently he'll be off to the Blues as long as we can replace him. I'm not sure whether this is true or not, it's just "out there" so to speak.

The Derby fan on here a few months ago said Jacobs had a stinking attitude and that's why McClaren got shot of him. Starting to ring true, it seems.

Agree with this, except for the last bit. I think the money spent on the Academy will prove to be well spent indeed in years to come.

Not sold on those rumours, Jacobs doesn't seem the type. IMO he's just not strong enough for this division and maybe doesn't have the talent to make amends for that (He's only 22 though so lots of time to improve).

Agree with this re the rumours and as you say only 22 Think he is a talented player but needs to take any opportunity he gets

By the way how much do you suggest Morgan should throw at it this window and how does that fit with our position regarding Financial Fair Play? Put a figure on it. I would respond to your argument if had any more depth to it than "we should sign some new players, the chairman needs to get his chequebook out". I mean what sort of response are you after?

Obviously this is an interesting point, and Morgan has been quick to hide behind the FFP as a reason for not investing in the club, on many occasions.

Moxey is on the record as being against FFP as it cements the power of the already established clubs and makes it difficult to be challenged.

But what hasnt been noticed or publicised very much is that the rules themselves have recently been substantially diluted:

and this statement by Charlton's CFO in opposition to the changes:

The new system only starts next season so Wolves are limited to 8m in losses for this year, (less any funds for youth development
taken away).

Only the club has the exact figures for this, but if Wolves are aiming to break even this year, then that gives a fair bit of
leeway to inject some ambition at a crucial moment for the club.

I'd expect us to make a profit this year, which I assume is also the reason they haven't reported the headline figures to us, which they usually do in December.

I'm not sure we'll have made a profit in L1. Seems unlikely with lower crowds, vastly decreased TV income, high earners still on the books etc.

The reason been is because of the reserving of wages in last years accounts, so the money that teams paid us for Doyles, etc. wages and the wages of the players we sold such as Ward & Henry will have to go back into the accounts as profit.

Clearly, a lot of our fans will not understand how it works and will come to the conclusion that we should have spent the profit on players.

The other big change is that three years' accounts will be looked at when assessing how much losses a club can make, instead of the single current season.

Essentially it is an abandonment of the whole principle of FFP at Championship level from next season.

But Morgan has plenty of room to manoeuvre also this season.

So how much should we be spending in your opinion? And on who?

Season after isn't it? But yeah, it's effectively been scrapped.

I believe Forest are in the process of loaning a player from Chelsea, so as long as you don't have 24 players, over 21 , who've played more than 5 games, it's not even here this season.
