Muso's Guitar Tart Waffle

I'm out of my depth on this thread, but didn't know where else to note that Robert Plant is on Desert Island Discs right now.

Once we finally close on the new house, I am treating myself to a new acoustic.
Its either going to be a Taylor, a Martin or a Takemine
You're Irish - buy a Lowden! You'll probably save a grand for a comparable instrument.

EDIT: You'll also get a lot more for your money buying second hand, whatever you decide on. (You won't be paying US or Japanese import tariffs, for a start.) www.thefretboard.co.uk has a trustworthy For Sale section.

My Martin was worth every penny. Never heard an acoustic like it. The sound is so rich and it sustains for eons.

Taylor, all the way 😁

When i finally get the re-mortgage sorted (I hate your website HSBC) I might treat myself to an ESP Explorer. Wanted one for nigh on twenty-five years, I keep telling myself that's some form of justification.

I bought an Ibanez acoustic. Couldn't decide between a Taylor (too bright) and a Martin (too muddy), so went for the Ibanez as a good inbetween sound.

I've been looking at an Ovation guitar to try and really get back into it. Not a 12 string, though, I'm not mad.

The Explorer you want can’t be bought directly here as Gibson get shitty. Have to source it directly from Tokyo so if budget allows you might as well go custom shop and spec out the actual Eet Fuk guitar, but with ebony rather than rosewood fingerboard. Importing rosewood is a proper pain with the new exotic woods regulations. EDIT - if going custom you might as well swap out the EMG 81 and 85 for the EMG Het Set.

Depends on the price difference to be honest. Don't get me wrong I'd love to go all out on the Het Set, be rude not to, and the ebony fret is a must. Starting at £3k for standard model though it might make my eyes water a bit throwing the upgrades in.

I think the upgrade in price for the pickups wouldn’t be too bad. I think a Het Set is about £250 and a standard set 81/85 is something like £160 or £170.
