Newcastle 1-0 Wolves: Verdict Thread

Other than RAN for Marcel and Neto for Hwang (and we have no idea how fit Neto is) i'm not sure what else i'd have done any different to Lage tonight, so i'm surprised to see criticism of him.

It's the board and their inability to sign a CM for about 3 years that pisses me off the most.

78 minutes is too long to wait though.

As YW said these performances if they continue into next season will see us lose a lot more. We’re just so inconsistent at times, whoever decided to sign Hwang up needs sacking, I see absolutely nothing from him.
Season is over now absolutely no chance we’ll come higher than 8th to many inconsistencies in the side.

I'd say the players were abysmal but when the manager seems to think everything is hunky dory up until the end of the game then what hope do they have? I think to be in 8th is over achieving and gives us false hope because with the way the owners are likely to take us forward only means it's going to get worse.

Haven't loads of people been shouting for Cundle over the last few weeks ??
Have they? I know I haven't, he looks steady, and he did little wrong tonight, and i am not blaming him at all but we shouldn't be in a position where we are having to rely on a young lad who has only played 1 league match in his career, we are 8th in the Premier league, what other team in this division has such an inexperienced player to play in the most crucial part of team?

It's far from an injury crisis either.

Glad I didn't bother going to that one. Apart from a 15 minute spell after half time we never really got a grip on the game and even then we didn't create much in that period.

It was always going to be tough given the line up (which was to an extent forced on Bruno) but the mentality was off from the first minute, the way our players reacted to a Newcastle player being within 5 yards of them you'd think we were up against peak Barça under Pep and they were being hunted in packs.

The goal was dreadful, we desperately need to inject some steel into the midfield and pace into the back line in the transfer window.

Bruno Guimarães was quality for them tonight, exactly the type of midfielder that we should be targeting to play alongside Neves & Moutinho. Unfortunately we'll probably let João leave on a free, sell Rúben for £10M less than his value and replace them with Hayao Kawabe.

How many games have we won because of Bruno Lage? How many games have we lost? I can count half a dozen without thinking

We are where we are because we have good players. He's a tactical pygmy, if he was sacked tomorrow I wouldn't care less. We can do and need so much better

Dont get me wrong I wasn't blaming the kid, he was no worse than Mout tonight

Dire. Bruno has to take a look in the mirror for this one - team selection dreadful, non-performing players left on far too long. Scrappy game - all well and good drawing Newcastle out to try and exhaust them, but you have to then do something once the opposition starts to tire. Guimaraes showing exactly what we are missing in the centre of the park.

Kilman clearly not on it mentally with poor first half distribution and trouble all game handling Saint-Maximan, the midfield, Cundle in particular, were overrun on the break and offered little attacking threat. It was a night of Trincao, and then Neto, running down blind alleys and/or just wasting the ball, Hwang looked like a complete stranger, Fabio far too isolated. Moutinho did his best but he, Boly and Marcal, whilst being decent overall, made too many individual mistakes. Even the usual reliable Jonny looked like he'd played a game too many.

Don't wanna dig Sa out as he's saved us on many occasions, but he has no complaints for the pen. Yes Wood bought it, but he makes clear contact even if the leg was trailing it's a penalty all day long, and needless because there were two defenders covering the goal.

Could and probably should have been 3-0, and Newcastle weren't even that good.

On a positive note, Campbell looked quite bright.

Sa 5.5
Coady 6
Boly 6
Kilman 5
Jonny 6
Marcal 6
Moutinho 6.5
Cundle 5
Trincao 5
Hwang 4
Fabio 5

Subs:
Neto 5
Campbell 6
Ait-Nouri N/A

Wow.

Time to log off i think.

The criticism is for it being plainly obvious it wasn't working after 10 minutes and he did nothing to change it until we were losing. Appaling management. Don't get me started on sending Boly up front in injury time like it was the cup final. Where was the urgency before that? What the fuck was he playing at?

Hwang could sell a billion shirts and get the most TikTok views of all time and he will never, ever be worth £14m. Unless something radically changes that will be right up there with one of the worst signings we've ever made.

I never want to see Hwank again. Fucking dreadful player

Trincao back to his cowardly self.

Bruno's contain tactic in the first half didn't work. Wide men, too wide and faced up. Long balls up to Fabio against 6'5" Burn doesn't work. Ever.

The players to a man, including Cundle were disgracefully poor first half. Kilman and the aforementioned Hwank the pick of an awful bunch.

We looked infinitely better with the kids on the pitch, a forward thinking mentality and actually paying the ball forwards at pace and tempo.

Bruno fucked up with his subs. He'll never be a top manager without the ability to change a game and he can't right now, no matter how much shouting he does.

Newcastle were as bad as we were and we made them look ok.

We're going to have bad games but tonight we were wank and it's killed Europe for us. That's on Bruno.

Not at all, not been out, watched it at home stone cold sober. Here are the games he's cost us just in the last few weeks:
Arsenal
West Ham
Leeds
Newcastle.

He can play Mr Angry on the touchline, he can wave his arms around, he picks the team, he sets them up, he (doesn't) make the changes. He's not very good.

That was a disgusting performance in reality and one reminiscent of Nuno final days. I’d say the way we’re performing we’re smashing against our glass ceiling in 8th probably just highlights just how inconsistent everyone is behind us.
Far to reactive from Lage should have hooked Hwang at HT. Fabio really the only who put himself about up top but was feeding on scraps.
The disallowed goal was just a comedy from ourselves defensively.
O

Right, could easily have copied and pasted this from Nunos last season

1) Why cant we pass from A to C, we have to pas A to B to C, you can pretty much guess with 100% accuracy where and whom a pass is going to go.
2) How come everyone else can make defence splitting passes but our approach play the vast majority of the time has to go via the wingbacks.
3) How many times was Jonny stood on his own with no one around him and we never looked up and saw him, only Joao spotted him once and then floated a ball to him that the defender could easily cut out
4) If teams press us high, they just have to wait for us to make a mistake
