Don't care how it happened, three points away from home is a good result.

First time this season we've scored more than one goal in an away fixture, to boot.

Looks like Jota has definitely joined the season!

Not wholly convincing, but wholly pleasing. Shame that Jiminez strike didn't go in. Two home games up next (admittedly very different in approach) so a chance to get some momentum going again.

We did enough - Jota is back as well which is of real benefit

Do feel I should say, I've been one of Jota's biggest critics (maybe the biggest) since last January. He was unplayable today. Brilliant.

It’s the world against Newcastle on Twitter, if anyone doesn’t see at as red then you don’t know the rules.

It wasn’t the best performance overall but I do think we deserved the win.

First half was even - we started better but they finished stronger after their goal.

Second half we were in control before the red card and I think it threw us a bit. Took us fifteen minutes to adjust and then we found a way to play between the lines though Jota and MGW. We were also very good on the counter attack through Those two, Raul and vinagre.

Joao was awesome when he came on too.

I think the set up at the start was largely due to the level of effort expended against Chelsea. Though I guess we could and maybe should have started with Cav instead of Adama or Traore. It’s great that we can change it during a game and adapt how we attack. We definitely look more effective with MGW and Diogo playing nearer to each other

Looking back a few times at it now think we are slightly lucky to not concede a penalty. But nice to have some luck for once.
MOTM - Jota

Laughable negativity on the match thread - I didn't agree with Nuno's team selection but he clearly had his reasons and, oh look, he's won again.

I think we dealt with Newcastle comfortably before the sending off and created several decent chances. I'm not sure what people are getting so worked up about: we're a newly-promoted side still getting to grips with this league yet we're a point behind 7th.

Raul, MGW and Moutinho to come in against Bournemouth would be ideal, but if they don't it'd be nice if some of us didn't throw their toys out the pram.

Rafa is embarrassing himself here. Lascelles is slower than me, how on earth is he going to tackle Jota.

Always quire liked him, but showing himself to be a cunt.

I was crippled before. I now have no legs. My limbs are somewhere else.

Take what lessons you can from that Nuno. Clearly learnt by the end that the front three from the last game needed to come back. I was hoping Moutinho would come on for Costa but didn't think he'd do it given we had the extra man but boy was it needed. Lots of wasted long balls today until the last 15 mins. Just like Jota was dropped, please please please give Costa a break for a few games - just for the kick up the ass it should give him.

Lots of players now on 4 yellows...could be interesting over Christmas (could be a positive too if players like Dendoncker can get more game time).

I think you can understand Rafa's frustration about the Boly one, but he's talking out of his arse over the Yedlin red card.

He's always been a complete twat. I can't stand the bloke. Fergie completely ruining the guy in the head was top notch.

Spot on. We have some seriously fickle fans.

We started ok and we’re doing fine until the equaliser at which point we were pretty dreadful until the subs/red card. Jota was excellent and Vinagre grew into the game as more space appeared. Doherty never stopped running and kept getting himself in good positions. Traore should never be starting centrally, if he’s in it should be wide running onto passes from the central forward but I hope Nuno sticks with Raul, Jota and MGW up front after today. Clearly a much better way to go and really should have started like that barring any injury concerns.

Newcastle didn’t manage to create much but they always felt like a threat with Rondon and any balls into our box caused havoc so I was worried they would nick a winner. Boly was excellent again btw.

With the Boly 3 game ban coming and Bennett and Coady on 4. We could be in a little bit of Sticky spot. When’s the cut off for 5 yellows?

Jota was quality throughout. Id also like to mention how awesome Moutinho was when he came on, wasted nothing. Quality.

Delighted for Jota today - I thought he was excellent and by far & away our best player. Also delighted with the result. However, I won't stick my head in the sand (like others) and allow the last minute winner to paper over the cracks. I hope Nuno has learnt his lesson today and bins off the Traore experiment as soon as possible. He got the line up wrong today and it was only when he reverted back to the formation that served us so well against Chelsea and made the changes that we actually looked like winning the game.

Although I think Rafa has gone OTT with his reaction after the match, Newcastle can feel very hard done by this evening (Boly may face some retrospective action for his elbow).

I'm concerned about the form of Neves and Costa (who was anonymous after his assist).

All that said, well done to the lads for digging deep and getting a winner. Despite our horrific November, we're still only 4 points off the Europa League places :icon_lol:

I'd have been happy with a draw at the start and even at 90 - Newcastle have been in very decent form and looked good today. Coming away with 3 points is superb.

Didn't think Traore was that bad, chased well and took the ball out well at times, but he is absolutely not the right player to be the sole forward currently. Suppose we are stuck though, if Raul hasn't recovered and Leo isn't up to it we have no choice - the nonsense spouted at Nuno was very poor at times.

Stupidly forgot my self imposed matchday thread ban for the first half. Thankfully remembered at half time.

He’s a tactical genius though, dontchaknow? Although how much of a tactical genius you have to be to hump the ball at the big lad up front, I’m not sure...
