Difficult one in terms of team selection. Saiss hasn't let us down at all at LWB (even if it does look a bit weird) but given that these are shit - all the statistical metrics from last season suggest they should have gone down, and they don't look any better this year - do we need to go more attacking down that side? Ait-Nouri does at least have some more time to train with us now.

Pick either one of Neves or Moutinho but I'd leave Donck where he is.

Same back three, same front three.

Overdue a league win against them at home, not managed it since April 1993 (Andy Mutch, 1-0, more or less a year after we beat them 6-2 and he scored one of the worst hat-tricks you'll ever see).

2019/20: D 1-1 (H), D 1-1 (A)
2018/19: D 1-1 (H), W 2-1 (A)
2016/17: L 0-1 (H), W 2-0 (A), L 0-2 (A, LC)
2011/12: L 1-2 (H), D 2-2 (A)
2010/11: D 1-1 (H), L 1-4 (A)
2003/4: D 1-1 (H), D 1-1 (A)
2002/3: W 3-2 (H, FAC)

Just realised I will miss most of this game as I will be driving the Dogs over to their sitter at the time the game starts. Fooks sake....now do I try and ignore all mesages/internet and record the game and watch it from the start when I get in or put up with R5

Team, as last night but with a LWB, pref Ait-Nouri so we can see him. If he is deemed ok to play against PSG by his former club I am sure he can cope with Newcastle

Feel like we always play a bit shit against Newcastle, hopefully we go for it from the start like the Sheff Utd game. Saint Maximin is their only real threat. Same team but we need to put Ait-Nouri at lwb for me.

With all due respect to Newcastle, I'd like to think that this game (especially with Nuno having 5 days with the squad) is one we can dominate possession more and control the tempo. So its the same starting 11 for me but with RAN at lwb. Saiss has done a job there and Marcal was first class defensively against Sheff Utd but didn't offer much in their half

I wouldn't be judging Marçal's attacking output too much on that game, Sheff Utd always pile on overloads down the flanks so he was never going to get forward much.

If you think back to last season in that game in the filthy rain, Doherty had an absolute shambles of an evening because he simply couldn't deal with it.

I don't really watch much French football on the basis of it being the perennial home of 8 goal a season Yannick Sagbo type strikers, so I never saw much of him for Lyon other than the CL games last season when he was at LCH, rather than when he played LWB for them.

Patricio
Semedo Boly Coady Kilman Marcal
Dendoncker Moutinho
Podence Jimenez Neto

Harsh on Saiss who would basically lose his place for doing a job elsewhere but no room for sentiment Kilman at the moment is in great form.

Patricio
Semedo Boly Coady Kilman RAN
Dendoncker Moutinho
Adama Jimenez Neto
for me, lets get at them.

This would be refreshing, although I doubt we'll see it. I'm not sure we'll see RAN in front of Kilman any time soon.

Think Nuno will be more likely to put Marcal in and keep everything else the same.

He has lots of new combinations and partnerships to look at this week, very exciting.

For me, I'd be happier with someone more fitting at LWB than Saiss. In terms of who plays next to Donk and who is either side of Raul, I'm easy right now

Whats everyone basing their Alt-Nouri inclusions on? Travelled yesterday but clearly wasn't deemed good enough to start or even dislodge a half fit Marcal from the bench.

Personally don't think we'll see him much for 6 months or so.

It’s less that he’s not good enough, and more that he’s had almost no training time with the whole squad, surely?

Or because he's barely been at the club since signing two weeks ago?

I don't think Aït-Nouri is going to go from not being on the bench to the starting XI straight away. Marçal for Saïss and Neves for Dendoncker the only changes for me. Hopefully Vitinha is fit enough for the bench this time.

Sorry yeah poor wording should have read deemed 'not ready' rather than not good enough. I don't think he's deemed good enough now but thats because he hasn't had the time with Nuno yet (we know he likes to take his time bringing players into the fold, which has worked well).

Hence why I don't think we'll see much of him for 6 months or so (not saying he's a bad signing sure when we get to that stage he'll be a good signing) just don't understand why a lot of people seem to think he'll all of a sudden be ready next week when he wasn't last night!

He has had about one training session with the first team because of international duty.

Think six months is a bit of a stretch, we'll have about half a dozen games left by then and Jonny will probably be back!

He's only here for a year on loan anyway (yeah, with an option, but we're not going to be champing at the bit to sign him up if he's only been able to play about five games)!

Donk has been fantastic this season - I don't think its a coincidence we have won every game he has started in CM and lost everyone he hasn't.

Long term I'd like to see:

Donk - Neves
Vintinha
Podence/Neto Raul
