Pre-Season Fixture thread (22/23)

It's fine if you can put out 2 completely different teams. So we are either about to go mad on player purchases or push a smaller squad than last season to the max a week before we kick off

We'll just take loads of youth players to make up numbers.

Possibly! The odd triallist too.
I am expecting some incomings this summer. No idea when that may happen though.

It seems really risky to ask players to play 2 days in a row. Effectively during their recovery to "go again" so to speak

But I'm no sports scientist.

No-one will be playing twice in two days. It'll be two separate squads.

Most of them did 45 mins each day didn't they?

V Stoke

Wolves | Sa, Semedo (Hoever 81), Mosquera (Kilman 46), Coady, Saiss, Marcal (Ait-Nouri 81), Moutinho, Neves (Dendoncker 46), Trincao (Cutrone 73), Traore (Gibbs-White 46), Jimenez (Silva 73).

Unused subs | Ruddy, Marques, Bueno, Campbell, Cundle, Estrada.

V Coventry
Wolves | Ruddy, Hoever, Mosquera (Bueno 33) (Campbell 45), Kilman (Coady 78), Ait-Nouri, Neves (Estrada 90), Marques, Dendoncker (Moutinho 88), Gibbs-White (Cundle 78), Traore (Cutrone 61), Silva (Semedo 88).

Unused subs | Sa, Marcal, Saiss, Trincao, Jimenez.

Mosquera did 45 then his hamstring went early next game. Bueno also did his but he hadn't played at all the previous day

So a few players played more than 90 mins,

Neves played 45+90,
Hoever 90+9,
Coady 90+12,
RAN 9+90,
Dendoncker 45+88,
Traore 45+60.

It's bloody risky, i don't like it.

To counter, probably play more minutes on the training ground, at a similar pace on a similar schedule.

Always muscle injuries in preseason and the worst ones picked up last season were Boly and Mosquera and they were fit enough to play by the time Spurs rocked up in the League Cup. Obviously Mosquera then snapped again and Boly had other issues.

Personally I'm not a fan of back to back games but I don't think they add that much risk, if managed properly. Maybe increases impact injury if we play a bunch of idiots (yeah Shrewsbury, you).

This summer it's currently a bigger risk as we have a decreased number in our 1st team squad and more could be going. Needs a be a bastard busy month for jet setting Hobbs, Sellars, Jeff and whoever we get as Jorge is busy doing big boy transfers for proper teams.

Bruno is still abroad with his family by the looks of his Instagram

Few snippets:

More use of the hybrid system planned. 343 without the ball, 4231 in possession.
Chiquinho seen as key when we use this plan (won’t be all the time) but everybody really happy with him in that role, providing the main wide outlet. Him pushing on allows the inside right forward (MGW or DP) to play inside much closer to the striker. Neto to play to the left of the forward I’m assuming then.

Palhinha been passed over as Neves is still here. He and Mendes want him playing every PL game prior to the World Cup. Marco Silva connection will allow this. If Neves does go at some point, other options will be in place.

Nice one GFFH.

In very specific situations I’m fine with the whol Chiquinho wing back thing but as a general plan as I said before it would really worry me.

Bruno kinda did that last pre season where Ait Nouri tucked in at times too and it didn’t work. So not got the confidence in Bruno right now to nail that which it would need to be
