Pre-season friendly thread

Only seen a few vids of him so no opinion on him. He does look a miserable bastard though.
If doesn't remove Pat Mountain from the top of my list of shit GK coaches then he will be ok for me...
Poor old Pat. Judged off one warm up session, no turning back.

Game and result aside what I enjoyed today was the fans, it was fantastic smelling the expensive burgers and Bovrils, listening to the fans singing our players on and off the pitch. Also enjoyed a solitary fan abusing Patrick Cutrone at the end telling him to fuck off home... Noice. That aside it was great to be back..

Their goal
Corner ball came down and a bit of a scramble, 2 shit attempts to clear, Sa saved one shot and Batth tucked away the rebound (questions that Fletcher was standing in an offside position blocking the keepers view though..we would have had 3 mins of VAR on that in the Prem)
Ours
Semedo cuts into the area, fires a shot towards the bottom corner, keeper saves and pushes it outwide but Raul is there to put it away from just inside the 6 yard area
Thanks Kenny. You're a very nice man.

Just back from the match.

Good experience. Wolves fans in good voice and a strong performance.

Fabio worried me, as did our defending from corners.

We completely dominated the game.
Their keeper made three goal saving interventions , Danny B should have been sent off and Trincao probably gets a pen in the premier league. We were unlucky not to win. We are certainly not playing for 1 0 wins anymore and that is the right move. Lage comes over as keen , enthusiastic and committed. He also appears to be flexible and want a bigger squad. It’s change, yes but that is not always a bad thing. I enjoyed our performance v Stoke today far more than the carabao cup game and we played a lot better. They are also nearly a fortnight ahead in their pre season. I am not feeling negative tonight at all . Raul looks back and Wolves look like they want to attack. That’s really good for me. Cautious optimism if you like!

We did look better today (against an extremely moderate Championship team) but I don't think you can just ignore how atrocious we were against Las Palmas. We'll see what happens as we go along, other than the increased pressing (which against better opponents will make us easier to pick off) I don't see that huge a difference to last season. We didn't create massive amounts, we played the same formation with the comfort blanket of a back three (so you might ask what the point of all this upheaval has been) and we didn't win. This with the benefit of having our best player back who we didn't have for nearly all last season.

Sure, take the positives, and there were a fair few, but it's not the land of milk and honey just yet.

I think playing a 5 is sensible with the personnel. We will see in the next few weeks if we actually want to play a 4 by the signings we do or don't make as things stand we don't have the players for it.

Oh yeah, we can't play a back four, especially the way Lage wants to play it with high full backs and two CMs sitting in front. We'd concede 70+ this season if we did that.

Whether we go 3 or 4 ATB I don't think we have the players to play a high line, high press anyway.

Minimum to do that I think is a new CB, a new DM and not picking Neves & Moutinho in a 2.
