Pre-season friendly thread

Not many of the other games and the first halves against Las Palmas and Celta were embarrassingly bad, even if they are "only friendlies".
They were bad but changes followed both of those halves that were positive. The 2nd half v Las Palmas we stopped them walking through us and created and scored our own chances. Yesterday, whatever Bruno did/said at HT saw a completely different attitude in the players.
We also saw Bruno scrap his prefered set up of 4 at the back during the Palmas game, so at least we can see he is prepared to alter his way forward.
If I am going overly positive on why we lined up with the Neves/Mout partnership, maybe he had changed something to see if he could get that working and it was clear it wasn't so, that was scrapped at HT as well. Proof will be next Saturday at 2pm though so until then its all guess work on our behalf.

For me, there are obvious concerns with Bruno and his experience, the size of the squad, the way we are funding this summer and of course the massive need for at least 3 new players but there have been positives as well. 2nd half yesterday probably saw us attack more in 45 mins than I had seen in the whole of April and May of last season, just a shame we couldn't finish. So far have seen Bruno is willing to adapt with this squad rather than trying to force the squad to do so, just one more thing left to show he gets it which requires faith in Donck or a new signing and showing there isn't a when fit Joao plays clause (as much as I adore the man he can't start next week)

Apart from the pricing, not overly fussed by what the execs in the background do and say as marketing people always seem to talk utter bollocks (no offence marketing folk of this forum...well maybe a little)

Everyone deserves a chance and I’m not calling for his head or anything my concerns is that I don’t think we’re absolutely ready to go next Saturday.
Fosun got it right with Nuno but got it wrong with Zenga and Lambert.
Time will and I hope he’s successful.
Would disagree with lambert. He steadied the ship untill the indentified target was available.

safe to say we are the only team in the premier league who would’ve appointed Lage. Time will tell whether it’s a good choice or not, although, I don’t think he’s being given the best of chances with our lack of activity thus far

This board used to be quite sensible, now we have who I consider to be a normal poster predicting a hammering, and relegation, and calling the Board not fit for purpose , WTF happened.

Yes Nuno was amazing, best manager in my lifetime, only really challenged by Barnwell.
He has gone we have a new direction Lage may be shit, he may be fantastic none of us really expected Nuno to produce what he did, there were loads of people ready to tell us he struggled when he had to come out and play.

Lage's record in management is good but he has only 1 job on his CV, but then OGS seemed a shit appointment.

Will we lose all 3 who knows, will we get an hammering who knows, but then we got pasted by Burnley and West Ham last season so hammerings are not just exclusive to Lage if we actually get one.

Burnley and West Ham games were diabolical and really showed issues in the squad and with Nuno.

Lets wait until the Window has closed, until the leagu has started before we all start slitting our wrists.

I am really worried about the season but that worry is purely down to the Unknown and not knowing what will happen, after last season that worry would have been there with Nuno.
If we played like we did against West Ham and Burnley, Nuno may have relegated us none of us know for sure.
I will give Lage my support until i see a teason not to, and 5 pre season games tells me fuck all

I don't disagree, but using OGS as a good example doesn't help your argument.
I am not sure, i expected him sacked by Xmas.
On the radio yesterday Kirk Blows and myself suggested OGS was not that good and was the reason UTD lost the Europa League Final, the Man Utd fan tore into us because UTD fans love him.

2 questions
1. If OGS was not a UTD legend qould he have got the job - probably not.
2. If Mendez was not Lage's agent would he have got the Job ? Probably Not

Its okay to change your opinion on the basis of new information surely?

Obviously, and concerns and reasonable criticism is okay too. I have concerns too.

But changing from 'doom and gloomers are bad, we should be patient and grateful for where we at and don't be entitled' to talk of relegation and ripping Fosun a new one every day in the space of one summer seems over the top and indeed hypocritical to me, and indeed the exact same revelling in negativity that used to get you slammed.

A lot of people are acting like we've sold our best players, the transfer window has shut and Bruno's lost his first four PL games. And that over reaction is deemed fine now.

As someone who got plenty of shit over the past couple of years for (I think) pretty constructive criticism of our transfer windows and also (last season) Nuno, there's no way on Earth I'm not going to highlight this

I think you’ve highlighted it. In every frickin post for about two months. Owt else to say?!

You're gonna chucked out of the clique if you continue with this reasonable attitude 😜

Hang on, weren't you lecturing me about 'consistency' the other day?? Make your mind up! 😉

I have plenty 'else' to say. My expectations for the season, thoughts on Yokuslu and Dendoncker, whether to sell Adama, the nature of signing players from relegated teams, what part MGW can play this season. And that's all in the last week.

Also, you're missing my main point... that if I wasn't highlighting it, no-one would be

Are you saying repetitive moaning is fine, but repetitive highlighting of it is not?

I would say you are far from the only one highlighting these things. The view of the forum as a whole seems pretty much 50/50 doom and gloom/let's wait and see to me

It just comes across that you’ve got a bit of the Farage about your no-platforming schtik from your platform. Look, ultimately I actually hope you’re right and Lage is a success, I absolutely do, and I will be delighted to be have my concerns proved wrong. I don’t think it’s OTT to have an opinion, and I suspect you don’t really think that either. I’m parking my pointless contributions on this now anyway, you’re likely as bored as me!

Thanks mate, but that's not my point.

I don't mind if someone's doom and gloom or wait and see, I've always preferred people to speak their mind. My issue and my amusement is how widespread and tolerated the former is now based on precious little evidence.

Makes me wonder why so many little Hitlers have run round the forum telling people off these past few years, and why they're silent now?

Yep, we should definitely park it mate, as if you think I'm saying Lage will be a success you've completely misunderstood my 'every post for the past two months' 😉

I'm not saying Lage will be a success, I'm saying I'll give him a chance and it's too early to have a definitive opinion, let alone an entrenched one!

Who are the forum Hitlers Prawnking? Call them out and give them the right to reply.
Hopefully we can all move on rather than have the continuous historical references brought up in every thread.
For what it’s worth I was quite happy with our transfer windows/policy up until this summer. We’d been successful and to replace performing players would have cost a small fortune.
We’ve gone a different direction now, with a novice of a coach and not backed him yet in the transfer market. For me there’s far more to be worried about now than in the summers of 2019 and 2020.

I agree with the second paragraph and want him to be a success. Who on here wouldn’t?

I have to say I am not doom laden. I’m nervous. If we go like the second 45 yesterday this could be a boatload of fun. If we go like the first 45 it could be a fun wasteland. Desperately hoping for the former.

Yeah forgive me if I don't take you up on that lose/lose scenario thanks...strange that moderators on here always have to step up to the plate against me on this topic even when I'm being perfectly polite and explaining myself in detail. Why is that?

There are plenty of people who've played the 'you're negative/not a Wolves fan' card at any dissent during Nuno's tenure. They should know who they are, and if others weren't paying attention as to who, I'm not going to do the work for them. Look at some old threads. It was endemic anyway frankly.

But whatever, I'm clearly on my own on this, so I'll knock the topic on the head for good
