Premier League: Relegation Race

Have we ever lost 10 in a row, even in the dark days of the mid-80s?

Because that's the only way we're going down, and even then it wouldn't be a sure thing.
No one is saying “we’re going down” just be mindful especially if the gap is down to 6 points, it’s unlikely but by no means impossible.

Best get some new undies for when I shit my pants...

Worst team in the league based on the last 6 games points wise and not the first time this season. It's not going to end in relegation imo, but I don't think this season can be just written off simply by Covid and Raul's injury. There's more fundamentally wrong than that

As I said on the verdict thread - play four at the back and we look conceding every time the opposition attack, we can't do anything. We let players run straight onto centre halves who hate being ran at, we don't defend crosses properly, we don't stop crosses, we make basic errors regularly. Play five at the back and we're ok defensively in general, but we never ever look like scoring. We go down the Ole route of just hoping one of the good players up front does something special.

So yeah, structural problems whichever way you frame it. What doesn't help is having either a kid (talented, but a kid) or a complete joke (called it after 2-3 games that he was shit, you could just tell he was more Sagbo than Sturridge as loan signings go, no idea how he has scored goals anywhere) up top, that's not a sustainable situation ever.

However relegation is a complete non-issue. IF we lost every single game then it'd maybe be a 50:50 shout. We obviously are not going to lose every game.

Avoid defeat Friday it would pretty much end any lingering worries 9 points from 6 is a huge gap to bridge especially considering they’ve still got to play Arsenal, Chelsea and Man Utd away.

I 100% concur that relegation this season is a non-issue . . . however . . . next season is a totally different ball game and unless there is a dramatic improvement in recruitment, Raul recovers (no guarantee on that) and a total refresh of attitude from Nuno and the squad then I can see next season being one where we would be serious relegation candidates.

Pressure definitely on at the start of next season. I tend to agree poor recruitment and not addressing current problems will see us in a lot more trouble next season. It would probably mean Nuno losing his position.

We’ll hopefully get another 2 or 3 points playing like this, doubt we will go down but can easily see us finishing 17th.

Fulham have 7 games (including Arsenal, Chelsea and United) to play and need to win at least 4 of them to overtake us and that's assuming we pick up no more points. Its closer than we would like but a 9 point gap is huge at this stage. If I was a Fulham fan those 9 points would appear insurmountable to me.

Hopefully we beat them Friday and put it to bed once and for all.

I can't imagine Fulham fans are looking as far up the table as us, they will have Newcastle firmly in their sights though obviously.

I can see a really good, open game again on Friday.

Quite.

They would probably find the fact we are even discussing it a bit silly I would imagine!

:D

Think you'll find it's "the boys at Ladbrokes" for that reference point...

Anyway, his boast was merely that we weren't one of the three favourites to go down. We were pretty short though when he said that. Shorter than 10s as I recall.

200/1 is the kind of odds you get for Alan Pardew to make an emotional return to Newcastle, or Harry Kane to move to Arsenal. You'd have more fun setting fire to your money with the same net result. If people are that worried though, chuck a tenner at it.

I got 16/1 at the end of January as it seemed wise to ease the pain the little Welsh git inflicted on us.

As great as a win for us was, I think we have pretty much ended Fulham's hopes then. If I was picking one I'd thin West Brom the most likely to get out, but if Newcastle can beat or draw with Burnley today I think even that single point is going to help. I think Brighton and Burnley will be safe but included them, mainly as Brighton probably have the trickest remaining fixtures.

Tough run in for Fulham, but I reckon they’ve got the last one nailed.

Yeah my concern would be they can't catch Newcastle by then. Newcastle despite being poor seem more likely to scab a victory from somewhere. Fulham very much seem to have that 'can play well but lose' mode activated.
