Reading Fan Chat – Wolves v Reading

Saturday 7th February, 2015 (Championship)

As always, friendly greetings from daib0. So onto our game together this coming Saturday – and I wondered if I could get a bit of chat going once again.

The first thing I notice is that you are more-or-less like Reading were last season, in and around the play-off places. However we failed at the last hurdle, but hardly deserved it due to a lukewarm end of season, though actually it was only for one position and one point that we had to put up with a 7th place finish. So can Wolves do a bit better? Where do you now see it going – both with using your head & your heart!

How has the winter transfer window treated you, any incomings or outgoings of note, and might you be stronger as a result?

Reading have certainly tightened up at the back now, but are goal-shy. But we have attacking arrivals in the window, let’s see if it gets a bit more positive. Taking all into account, how do you see the weekend game going?

As always, I promise that any snippets used will be credited by reference to your forum, and the member name. And guaranteed absolutely no ‘wind ups’ on our forum, to the contrary, our highest respect.
Our match presentation is here - http://royalsrendezvous.co.uk/topic/10264575/1 - and loads of info up on Wolves, though please do feel free to point out any small inaccuracy you may find!

Bar our awful run of form in November, we have had a good season so far. We have a good group of young talented players and yet I still don't feel like we have ever been at full throttle. Whether we are capable of that yet or not we shall see, but if we can stay solid at the back as we have been lately and add more goals we will be up there.

We've added Benik Afobe, spending a fair amount on him too! He's done OK so far showing flashes of what he can do but when he has played we haven't had a balanced side. We've managed to keep Bakary Sako who on his day is one of the best in the division, and also rid ourselves of Leon Clarke and Roger Johnson yesterday. Overall its been an OK window for us, but you can always become stronger.

I haven't paid loads of attention to Reading lately, but there seems a to be more optimism with a new manager and new arrivials. You ave some good young players who with the right investment you could build a team around. Sako returning brings the balance we need and also the creative spark, so at home I fancy our chances. Whoever gets the nod between Dicko/Afobe up top will provide pace, presence and power with an eye for goal. I didn't think Reading were too bad in our 3-3 game (though I thought we were the better side), so expect it to be fairly tight. I'll go for a 2-1 Wolves win! [B/]

How's Danny Williams getting on for you, daib0?

It's a possibility if we can 1) avoid injuries to key players - our worst run of form back in November coincided with our main striker Nouha Dicko being unavailable which left us with a traffic cone up front, we got dicked in four out of five games scoring just once, and 2) if we can get our midfield firing on all cylinders. At the moment there's very little in the way of a cutting edge through the middle for us and we're making very hard work of scoring goals, but our leaky defence at the end of last year has been fixed so that gives us a fighting chance.
Hopefully we can make the play-offs, but I wouldn't be surprised either way. We're definitely not giving up.

Benik Afobe has come in from Arsenal and looks like he'll be a very good addition given time to settle, that's been our only signing this January but one we sorely needed.
We've offloaded Roger Johnson and Leon Clarke, it's actually quite surprising that other clubs wanted them, and it's a breath of fresh air. We're certainly better off without those two stains hanging around here. We also have Scott Golbourne back from a long term injury so that's a boost in itself. In a nutshell we're better equipped now than we were two months ago.

It could be a tight affair if you're not conceding but not scoring many, a goalless draw would be the safe bet for punters. But I think we should just have enough to shade it if you come here to play for points, we've been struggling to break down ultra defensive teams of late.

ah, and great answers guys & gals, many thanks indeed ...

Likewise, any more questions on Reading or such coming back just write and I'll do my best to be of help
