Refereeing question

Opposition can enter the box as soon as the goal kick has been taken. Think part of the reason they have made the change is so that teams can’t time waste “accidentally” stepping into the area and forcing the goal kick to be retaken.

The Chelsea penalty decision was appalling. How can VAR look at that and not give it?

It was Swarbrick too who is in charge of the implementation of VAR in the Premier League. Says it all. He’s also the same ref who didn’t think Fabinho should have been sent off against Brighton. This is the guy who trains refs on how to use VAR!

VAR will never be fit for purpose while our referees are so poor.

Just seen the Brentford goal on motd. Totally laughable. These utter clowns are stupid to be corrupt.

Imagine being as bad at your job as Lee Mason and not being fired (or at least demoted to intern or something)

What levels of incompetence must there be within refereeing for the mistakes to be so bad, so frequent and so multiple? At what point does it go beyond mere incompetence?

It needs taking out of PGMOL hands and an independent group setting up by the PL. Similar to the NFL it should be a centralised small band of people that oversee all games from a location not at the grounds.

VAR should be independent and the same teams should be running it week in week out.

It should be a specialist position and I'm staggered it isn't.

Edit: Ninja'd by the Bear.

Anyone have any thoughts on the semi-automated offside they used at the world cup?

Will get closer to the “consistency” Potter alludes to as it will be the same people making the decisions who have no care for the thoughts/feelings of the individual referee.

It's such a dinosaur way of thinking too, that referees have all the skills they require to operate / manage VAR rooms. I bet it's never even crossed PGMOLs mind to wonder if VAR requires a different skillset.

Im dubious too that the current top level officials are the best we have. How do they go about selecting which refs should get to the top?
