REFERENDUM RESULTS AND DISCUSSION THREAD

Farage has withdrawn his comments on a remain win

Whatever the outcome will be interesting to see how the Conservatives put themselves back together (if they can) after the divisions created over the last 2 months

The reason that David Cameron called the referundum so early into the parliament is that he knew there would be nearly four years to repair any damage. The Conservative party have long been divided over Europe, and will remain so whatever the outcome of the referendum, but they will unite before the next general election.

Split by party on vote from YouGov:

#EUref: On how party supporters voted (Remain/Leave):
CON: 43/57
LAB: 69/31
LDEM: 73/27
UKIP: 7/93
(via YouGov)

Couple of interesting thing, first 7% of UKIP are remain WTAF!? Labour not as divided as thought.

IDS is bizarre tonight. What is this conciliatory tone? Why is he recognising that many people have been made poorer over the last decade? A good chunk of that was his work!

Farage has gone again:

Farage has conceded again based on "what I know from some of my friends in the financial markets who have done some big polling" - PA

It'll be remain I'm 99% convinced of it I'd be amazed if I wake up at 0630 and find it going the other way.
me too. Although I have been really surprised how many scots were campaigning leave this week in Inverness!

I can only imagine those 7% spoilt their papers!

He probably needs to keep quiet for now. This sort of flip-flopping does little for his credibility.

However, Douglas Carswell is coming over very well for me. Seems a decent man and I can see why he was a popular constituency MP and kept his seat.

Always impressed by Carswell. Surely the leader of UKIP when Nige finally lets go.

Yeah I thought he was coming across well. An honest man doing what he thinks right (even when he was wrong). If leave had been led by people like him it might have been different. Guardian reporting a lot of labour voters changed to remain on seeing Leave tactics and propaganda.

Early indications are that the turn out in Scotland is around the 65% mark. But the turnout in England will not be as high as the expected 80%.

Another one whose days in front line politics should be done for good. I suspect Gove may cling on but IDS is finished.

I think there are several from both campaigns that are dead in the water regardless of the result and IDS is one. Off to bed now. May I just say whatever the result well debated guys. Both sides cant win but it has been 4 months on one thread that has kept on giving gems for both sides.

This is the most promising thing I have seen yet:

If the sampling from Sunderland is correct, Remain have won. And by a good margin.

Sunderland was expected to have a leave majority wasn't it?
