Interesting
Very interesting. Looks like Jeff and Nuno are recognising they need some help, although it does say he has been part of the core group for a while. I think it's a good move putting it out there so people see that it isn't just Nuno and Jeff up against the world.

Good football mind with a good CV, I would be interested in what the specifics of the role are or what new responsibilities it may entail.

From what I read in the article, none. It seems it's recognition for his work rather than a change in role

Looking at it objectively his previous roles as head of academy and football technical have hardly been a raging success.

We pretty much only have one player who is a full academy graduate in the first team, and he’s been in and out for 2-3 years. Our loan process has been an utter disaster and we still seem to not know when to sell.

The Academy is playing catch-up as the players that are coming through now were probably recruited long before our Academy was in its current guise. Other local academies would have attracted the cream of the crop 8 to 10 years ago.

Spiers says it's essentially just a change of job title. Doesn't seem he's in charge of none U23 recruitment

He’s been at wolves for 7 years though.

Some of the academy are at Wolves from a much younger age. Some as early as 9 years old. Not all obviously.

I don't buy this at all. The EPPP allows for better recruitment and it hasn't stopped Blues picking up Bellingham and others.

We've been shit for over a decade.

I think we've generally not been bad at producing football league players. I think Giles, Sanderson, Ennis, Watt will all go on to play in the Championship regularly. Taylor Perry has a chance too as he seems to get into good goalscoring positions from midfield.

Gibbs-White is the best that we have produced since Lescott maybe? Mark Davies might have fallen into that category had he not been such a tool. Ennis too had it not been for some bad injuries.

I think the level of player we are producing is very gradually improving. Lewis Richards (ok, signed after Brentford shut academy down) and Luke Cundle I think are very good footballers. Otasowie is now obviously a first team squad member.

I'd agree we are a way off where we want it to ultimately be though - Chelsea is probably the benchmark of a world class operation but then they are very aggressive, they cover almost everywhere, and don't care what people think of their approach
