Spoilt Princesses moaning about Media Coverage of Wolves

My uncle used to be a GP in Hyde, but we don't like to talk about it

You're a real character.

"In dramatic irony, the characters are oblivious of the situation, but the audience is not"

Yes, it is extremely ironic

Not sure that this can really count, but had a quasi uncle (i.e not actually related, but his sister was always called/treated as an Aunt for my family & was my godmother) - who was a TV star many years ago.

Older ones will know the name if I gave it

I have a second cousin who was a famous referee and a another that was a famous ballet dancer and now runs the Royal Ballet. The fat gene skipped that generation.

He’s not great is he?

I don’t want to be mean as I do think he is trying but the recent ‘stats’ articles have been dreadful. Look how far Donck runs, this is how many passes Joao does. there’s loads you could do with that to actually do some good analysis but not sure he is capable.

I've not bothered to read the link but I presume this is young Jed.

He's pretty poor, but he shouldn't be doing this gig on his own, he should be learning his trade under an experienced sports reporter but the local newspaper industry being what it is he's thrust into a position way above his experience.

That said, he doesn't help himself with a writing maturity of a GCSE student at times

The local newspaper industry is in a state, it was telling how many left their papers to go to The Athletic once they opened their cheque book. They are going to have to rely on young local journalists or ones from smaller towns looking to write for a larger publication. That's the backdrop, none of which justifies the choice of imbeciles they employed last Summer to cover what for many will be the number one reason they read their content.

It's not even that good ! You would imagine a basic grasp of English to be the first prerequisite for a life in journalism, but as in all walks of life, we had a young girl start at work that didn't know how to write an address on an envelope so wrote it in one continuous line starting at the top left !

Wow, thats some statistic that the E&S are reporting, not sure how its possible but shows what an amazing season we are having

It is the first time Wolves have completed the league double over Wolves since the 1962/63 season

Can't find the thread where we were discussing it a few weeks ago but my Athletic trial expired yesterday. Didn't renew.

Literally just got an email off them offering 50% off for a year if I do it today or tomorrow. Undecided tbh as I read quite a few of the articles through the week at some point, but I rarely use it for Wolves content.

Anyway suggests their retention rate isn't that good (in this day and age, you can't really rely on people forgetting and auto-renewing, everyone is so accustomed to having to mess around with various companies every year/18 months/2 years) but they do still need the cash through the door.

In the grand scheme of things it's £2.50 a month and supporting journalism is a good thing. If it's good enough to justify it, like.

I think it was the Palace verdict thread. I cancelled and then took them up on the 50% a day later. £30 a year is decent value, but I read the NFL stuff as much as the football. They've made a lot of redundancies in the US, mainly on the baseball side, difficult to see how the business model will work here without advertising and having to heavily discount subscriptions.

I'd probably pay the £5 a month, but not when you know that nobody else is

I cancelled my free trial and got that offer - but there’s an offer of £1 a month for new subscribers (doesn’t get offered if you had a trial previously), so I signed up for that on my work email. I can’t complain about a £1 a month as I do read it.

Just seen I’m replying to old comments - might be interesting nonetheless so leaving it in :)

Reasonably encouraging stuff from Liam Keen so far. Nothing special but just basic competency which is a large step up.

Just a couple of simple little things make a big difference - not publishing reports/player ratings 12-15 hours after a game, poor in any circumstances, but even more so when it's 400-500 words of crap that shouldn't take longer than 10 minutes to knock up. Immediately obvious that he's a miles better writer than what they've had beforehand too. Keeping it simple and to the point on social media, no silly agendas, but still trying to engage, and as he's not a comedian he's not throwing out terrible attempts to be funny all the time.

You're never going to get award-winning stuff with the salaries they pay and the stupid briefs they set out, I wish they'd get rid of that fucking idiot Judah too, but early on he looks a step up from Nash, Spiers (absolutely chanced his way into his current role), Freelance Rosie (a terrible hiring decision) and Joey Reans.

Seconded. He's clearly a very talented young man and a genuine step up.
