Stats and Analysis Thread

Am I reading something wrong, or are there more minutes in 9 games than there are in 25?

I don't get it either. If these are games Podence had no part of it should be probably something in the region of 835-850 minutes including injury time for an entire 9 games.

It doesn't make a lot of sense now you guys have said that, I'll have a look later and see if I can make sense of it.

There is a chance it's cobblers

Simple. If Podence has taken part in 25 games, then his total minutes on the pitch in those games can be worked out from match sheets, so that number will be 2250 minutes + injury time played in the 25 games - minus the minutes that Podence was not on the pitch.

For 9 games where he made no appearance at all the calculation is 9 x 90 minutes (810 minutes) plus whatever amount of injury time in 9 games (I would estimate maybe another 45 minutes).

So I think it's 34 games so far this season = 3,060 minutes. Podence has played 1,468 minutes across 25 appearances, so I think him not playing 1500 odd minutes is the 9 games he didn't make an appearance in plus the minutes he missed in the 25 he did make an appearance in.

No idea if the other stats are right though

Edit. Just checked fbref and we've scored 26 goals whilst podence has been on the pitch so the stats look ok

Then they shouldn't put up the 9 games and 25 games line it adds nothing.

Just put minutes with short round on the pitch in one column and minutes without in the other.

Yeah, appearances rather than games would make more sense, but it just confuses things.

It just looks misleading, which damages the value as a stat. If you want to prove a point with a stat, I always believe make it extremely clear and hard to confuse, as as soon as something looks a bit awry, people question the whole conclusion. This is a case in point.

Worse reading if you go by minutes opposed to games though so it's not like he's blowing smoke up Podence's arse by dropping appearances at the top.

You mean it's not quite as stark unless we take his preferred first line to distract us as readers?

Lies, damn lies, and statistics...

Well surely the comparison is to show how reliant Wolves are on Podence for attacking effectiveness? His first line weakens that stance rather than falsely emphasising it as you'd expect someone to try and do if they're being selective or choosing stats slightly oddly.

This just seems misplaced rather than intentionally misleading.

Gomes is still young and hasn't played a lot for us, but he has the potential to be our next Boly.

How has Sanderson looked during the 2nd half of the season? Could he at least be someone who stays with the team in what was previously the Kilman role, limited apps but in and around the first team squad with a view of developing for the season after? Or does he look like exiting?

Kilman - NEW - Gomes

Boly and Saiss can go. Coady stays as club captain for his leadership and dressing room stuff. If Gomes doesn't step up consistently then Coady gets back in.

Nothing wrong with three at the back.

Having two midfielders sat on their toes keeping it as a back 5 even when your wingbacks end up as the furthest players forward is a separate issue.

We don't have the wing backs to play it, so unless we are signing 2 of those as well as the 2 centre halves, 2 central midfielders and centre forward plus additional squad fillers then it just needs putting in the bin

Got a ridiculous red card and didn't play much after that.

I don't think he's anything like good enough for us.
