Stats and Analysis Thread

Don’t get me wrong, it’s not the be all and end all. The reason for my post is, I’ve seen the sentence “we’ve been affected more than most by not having fans in the stadium” used as an excuse, or as part of a debate on multiple occasions. When the reality is, we’ve actually done alright with our fans not being there compared to most.

So it can’t be relevant one minute and irrelevant the next. Either it is, or it isn’t.

Either way, I thought it was quite interesting.

I think we would have done even better with fans..but who knows..just guessing now of course not science

I don’t think you can completely dismiss the lack of fans, discussion.

Of course there was going to be some degree of movement with certain clubs, or the table would finish the same every year.
The crowd at Sheffield United must’ve carried that team last season then.

It’s far too small a sample size to know how much of an impact no fans has made on teams really. This season will probably look like a bit of an outlier in some senses in a few years time. If we can get ourselves in and around 50 points regardless of home or away form, I’ll be pretty pleased considering where we were a few games ago

..and having no pre-season has hurt those teams with small squads more i think

I think the bigger factors are:

No preseason/ short gap
Condensed season
Difficult protocols for training and matches
Difficult living environment
I’d say the fans is the least important element.

Possibly, but still an element - and one which posters have bought up as an excuse for our poor performances, so worthy of discussion.

Not good reading for Jose... If you look hard you can find him underneath Moutinho.

It shows how our winners weren't narrow enough and the centre of midfield was two men with far too much space around them.

Saiss too wide and deep. Donk in the right spot but was awful yesterday.

We need to stop having all the players on the edge, it doesn't work. Nuno has to realise this and stop doing it.

Saw this on twitter which I thought was interesting - both Dendoncker and Silva are in the top 20 underperforming players in terms of their non-penalty XG - put a couple of those chances away and I think our early-mid season form looks a lot different.

Can't change the past but I do find it interesting!

De Bruyne's certainly explains my poor FPL performance this year though.

But how terrifying is it that De Bruyne is struggling but City are still absolutely walking it? He's their best player...

Not particularly, the thread even acknowledges that his xG per 90 is 0.05, and his xA per 90 is 0.18 - meaning that if he played every minute of every league game he'd be projected to get 2 goals and 7 assists. Those aren't the numbers that a supposed £60m talent should have.

I think there is just no inbetween for people with Adama (our fans and general football fans included). He's either amazing or he's shit, I think the truth is somewhere in between him despite his style.

He is what he is. Unique. Almost unstoppable dribbler, but his movement is limited and he is better with more attacking bodies around him as he is harder to 'double-up' on. His crossing is OK, he has a sweet spot striking from the right of the D outside the area too generally too. We can get more out of him tactically, whether it's on the left in a 343 or on the right in a 4231/433.

My main bugbear at the moment with him is his ongoing tendency to have 10-15 minute spells where he thinks he's not allowed to pass. Just runs into traffic, constantly. Sometimes in really stupid areas too.

Take with a pinch of salt as usual but helps give me confirmation bias about my feelings that our defensive line is trying to play slightly higher but suffering because of our lack of pressure on the ball (which I think improved in second half v Southampton, and also the game against Leeds)

I looked up Rui's stats today and it made me sad.

He does have worldie saves in him but he lets in more than he should.

Fulham have their keeper on loan I think? Could be an opportunity
