When you say sort it out, what exactly are you expecting? Wolves are lethargic by design not by circumstance.

Yes and no.

we are conservative in our approach (or generally have been) but the ability to repeatedly sprint has been lacking since “project restart”. Our killer ability on transition (and recovery) we haven’t been able to get right. I think a lot stems to not having a pre-season whatsoever, but how we have managed the whole process hasn’t worked either

That's exactly it, sort it by not being lethargic by design (and all the problems that go along with being lethargic).

My thoughts are that we play this way so we could cope with the Europa League last season and to minimise injuries. For whatever reason we haven't been able to change it (or whenever we have tried to be more energetic we turn into u10s all chasing the ball).

I think it highlights how poorly we move off the ball.

We would need to see dramatic improvement in that if we want to transition properly. Not Leeds levels but there is a reason the top sides all have high sprint numbers.

Either that or we go back to counter attacking and sit deep.

Agree with this. This is also why this summer is very important, not just from a transfer perspective but it's the best opportunity Nuno will get to implement a new way of playing with more intensity.

I think we naturally look better when we play a back four (and not playing a flat three in midfield, ugh), so I think that will help in the short term if we can get centre back and midfield signings right. Agree that we still have a lot of work to do though

If you're playing Neves and Moutinho together then you're never going to get high numbers here.

I'm blaming Willian José for it all anyway, I bet 95% of this forum would beat him in a race.

cant read the whole article but good, that xG shit is too inaccurate

I think I read they're going to provide a live view of xT as part of the coverage.

I think it's Oracle who are doing it so the licensing is no doubt ridiculously complicated

Has anyone started to compare this seasons stats with last seasons?

I've started looking and things like SCAs are higher for all players this season than they were last season. Adama is more than double last season per 90.

Pressing - Ruben & João are pressing as much as they did last season but it's significantly higher up the pitch.

Semedo currently has more touches in the opponents 3rd than anywhere else on the pitch

Shot creating actions - i.e. dribbles, passes etc that led to a shot

Edit. For example, Adama last season contributed 3.84 SCA per 90. This season he's at 8.32

Ruben & Joao are both higher than they were last season too with Ruben almost doubling his SCA per 90

It’s clear we’ve be solid at the back (but still conceded avoidable goals) but are inefficient at scoring/creating

Everton's best chance from an xG perspective was the one Sa gifted them. SA also then saved at richarlisons feet so he bumped up his own post shot expected goals saved in the process!
