Summer 2021 transfer window

I've read that other teams used to use the Molineux crowd in their favour. Keep it quiet for the first 20-25 minutes and the fans will turn on the team. I'm not saying it happens now, but it certainly used to.

That said, when Molineux is "up for it" the atmosphere and noise is astonishing

I think that was more of a cliche used by smaller clubs when we were perennial promotion faves / fairly big fish in the Championship if I remember, especially when we had the advantage of SJH.

(just because it's a cliche not saying it never happened though!)

That was a 90's thing predominantly and came from underperformance on the pitch versus expenditure. Call it entitled if you like, but that investment should have brought better results. It started with the signings of Kelly, Thomas and Keen.

Always easy to look back and judge behaviour disapprovingly, but in the moment things feel differently. Two narratives are that Turner was treated badly and Taylor was hounded out, but the former should have gone 12 months earlier when it was clear he'd reached his summit so fans were frustrated at us treading water and the latter had lost the confidence of the players and was taking us down.

Looking back Turner deserved better and Taylor, a good man was pilloried, but at the time they both felt appropriate.

Didn’t Dave Jones say something about it after he left us or have I got that arse about face (which would not be a shock!)

At some point you had to pull the plug on Turner, as you say it should have happened sooner.

We would have gone down under Taylor, I have no doubt about that.

I’d say 95% of our fan base our absolutely fine where as most other clubs that figures probably about 98% problem is the gobby minority will always be heard. A few hundred of those morons decide to sing the sign on song v Liverpool it becomes very audible.
I’ve been in the forces so been to a lot of games with friends of fans of other clubs and I’ve never known a fan base consume as much alcohol as ours do pre match either.

Frankly the whole debacle could have been avoided by signing decent centre mids.
You are correct. It is the key position for me if you’re playing a back four with the players we have at the moment. Let’s be honest 3 of our 5 centre halves are actually midfield players. Our best centre half has missed 20 games in the last 18 months, and our back up came from Futsal. Now you can add Marcal, made of biscuits and Hoever , still a kid in the mix but our regular 5 are as stated
So , firstly why are we signing Semedo if we want to play four at the back? Even for Barcelona in a four he was known as an attacking full back not a great defender. I can understand it if we were staying as a 3 at the back but not a four, not without significant additional personnel. Fabio has been debated to death. He isn’t a lone striker whatever your preference in three or 4 so it’s irrelevant to that arguement. Therefore our recruitment strategy appears very flawed.
In truth I don’t have a clue what the best next step is . We are either far too cautious or far too open. There is nothing in between. Even poor teams know how to play against us as our play is now so slow and monotonous at times, value the ball and keep it rather than quick pass and move to counter. Moutinho is the worse offender. He seems to have morphed into a 1986 Ray Wilkins clone. His set pieces are generally awful and he can only pass backwards. He has really gone down this season for me. That’s what age f do yes when it catches you up.
Neves can’t shoot for toffee at the moment and is living on a reputation gained in 2018. Donk misses more than he scores. WJ is no threat. Neto has gone from potential pots to a Costa impersonator in two months.
I cannot second guess Nuno as I can’t work out his thinking. For me it’s pick the style that suits your majority of players and bolster or build from that. For me that is 352 with Fabio and Raul up top ideally.
I also think that we will lose some big names in the summer. Others can offer more in the medium term.

I agree with this, him and Neto have been our only bright spots.

I think he's better as a CM rather than deeper as his quick passing and control are superb further forward.

I think he's be a better player with an attacking midfielder like Tielemans and a proper ball winning DM like Ndidi behind him.

If I was Brodge I'd be putting some serious money into buying Neves this summer.
Post of the thread. Bravo. For me that is why I may have misguided faith In otasowie as that Chelsea game was the best pairing and play from our midfield duo all season.

I was talking about the 90s :)

Leicester would be more interested in Neto than Neves. They really need another wide attacker who's better than Perez/Albrighton/Under.

I would take Perez and Albright on plus 20m for Neto tvm. It then released Traore too!
