Summer 2022 Transfer Window

So using Kane as a benchmark you will be expecting Fabio to score 21 goals this season?
He scored 2 goals in 15 games the season Fabio is going into. And the season after 4 in 19 for spurs!

My point wasn’t to compare him to Kane anyway. It’s that player development isn’t linear, which you know anyway

Fair point. I shall be expecting Silva to be released on a free and spend some time in non league football then.
It's pointless comparing any player to another when it comes to progression, you started it with Cutrone. I think you're just still really pissed off you can't sing the pizza/pasta song anymore.

2013/14 Kane got 3 in 10

2014/15 season, when Kane was 20 he got 21 in 34.

Unless my maths is wrong in which case Fabio has 2 seasons to get 21.

And I know progress isn't linear but I've seen no inclination this lad is going to be anything special.

Happy to be proved wrong when his contact is up though.

Surprised by the Fabio debate. If you’re just looking at his “goals scored” record, fair enough. But his overall game has clearly improved a lot since he first joined and he’s definitely bulked up. As YW says, we need to remember he’s still 19.

Unfortunately the weight of the price tag will always be used as a stick to beat him with - but that’s not on him. He just needs time, minutes on the pitch and for us to play to his strengths more than we have so far.

I’m more than happy having him as part of the first team squad.

Genuinely, what are people seeing as an improvement?

If it was Frank Silver from Stoke who came through the youth team most of us would've said he isn't good enough and needs a loan out to prove himself.

Much like Ryan Giles or Morgan Gibbs-White.

12/13 he was 19 - 2 in 16
13/14 he was 20 - 4 in 19 (3 in 10 in league)
I was going on league starts and I think you have Kane's age equivalence wrong for your stats. He was born in July 1993.

So 20 in the 13/14 season as Silva will be.

Yep, this upcoming season is the season Kane stayed at Spurs and scored a handful.

Fabio”only 19” Silva is 20 in a month. So would be pretty much the indentical age to Kane was in 13/14 as they both have a July birthday.

This season is the pivotal year. 2 years left on his deal afterwards so we will need to make a decision

I think he looked quicker, stronger, and his hold up and link play was loads better last season. trouble is, under Lage we won’t ever play the kind of football that would create chances for him - I think he’d look much better in a 4-2-3-1 with an extra attacker around him

Yeah you’re right but still, this upcoming season Fabio if he got 3 in 10 starts he’d be doing the same as Kane was.

Agree with Punts that this year is important in a way due to his contract and the fee that looks over him (which isn’t his fault of course). As others have said, I think he’s coming along fairly nicely for a player his age, just needs more minutes now. If we sign a striker maybe we need a loan but it would have to be spot on and we know it doesn’t always work like that

I don't think there's a decision to make on Silva just yet, he'll get a contract extension. No way the club are just going to let him walk for nothing.

I think a lot of him not looking good enough is down to the team/manager on the back of last season. It's common knowledge we hardly created any chances so it's not his fault he can't put them away. His overall play looked pretty good to me and he was starting to make some quality runs but never got picked out. It's hard to be on the edge of a game for so long then produce on the rare occasions you get the ball. He may well turn out to be a dud but I think he's going to be a decent player.

Let's face it, he's a young kid playing sporadically in a team that doesn't create a lot of chances. His fee wasn't related to his ability but down to Mendes's shenanigans.
Probably could do with a loan to the championship but won't happen.

Looking at his year on year peformances against Mings is the best comparison. Rag dolled and outpaced 2 years ago, last year it was the other way round. He's not ever going to be rapid, but he's not slow now either

A £45m asking price is being reported for Ait Nouri. I can’t see us getting anywhere near that figure but a fair chunk of that would go to his previous club anyway.

I assume we'd buy that out first? Perhaps I'm being too optimistic?

I think it was £8m wasn't it? So anything over £26m makes it worth doing
