The 1-2 Crying Game Verdict thread

One of the commentators said last night that Wolves needed to be brave - this needs to apply to the remainder of the season too. Play short, not long. Play promise, not proven failure. Play to win, not to not lose.
Lambert just made one sub in the game and he thinks we have played great the last games, just been unlucky. To me it says he lacks in footballing knowledge and need to be sacked... Now, before it's too late..

Same as Burton - it's not working, so let's keep at it until it does, rather than changing the 'tactics' and personnel, and giving them a different problem to solve.

That's the angriest I've been at a Wolves 'performance' for a long time, longer than I can remember. Lambert fucked that up from the word go and it was blindingly obvious that the team he put out were never going to cause much damage. Doherty and Coady; a shit right back at left back and a shit footballer at right back. Doherty's purple patch ended moons ago and we actually have a left back at the club for the first time since Elokobi so that one has baffled me all season, and Coady has been the dictionary definition of wank since we signed him as a midfielder, now we have two right backs on our books who are certainly no worse than him there but they don't get played. OK Marshall may not be match fit but surely Iorfa is a much better option, he's had his break from the first team now. And why keep dropping Hause after good displays? Baffling.

Our midfield is as wank as it's ever been. Saville is a parks footballer and really shouldn't be getting in our first team. Price is neat and tidy but really is just good at not giving possession away, sometimes. Edwards is another who has purple patches and at the moment isn't in one so offers the square root of fuck all. That midfield would be given a match by Willenhall Town to be fair.

Bod's workrate is immense and he's a handful but he cannot score goals yet we keep relying on him as a lone striker. Weimman is just standard shit, fills a position without offering anything. Costa is the only shining light but can't do it all on his own. Very worrying.

To lose to that utterly despicable shower of shit in that manner was totally unforgivable. People banged on about getting either the 'Norwich Lambert' or 'Villa Lambert', well we've got the Wolves Lambert and it decidedly worse than both. I was never convinced when we signed him and I wouldn't be upset to see him sacked anytime soon. Anyone who oversaw that disgrace last night deserves to walk, especially when they thought it was good.

Reality is we only got into the game once blues went down to 10 men and even after we pulled one back they looked relatively comfortable seeing out the game.
I think the loss of Cavaliero is showing to having both Costa and him on both wings really gives sides something to think about whereas currently teams are just doubling up on Costa.
All eyes on Wigan v Forrest and Newcastle v Bristol City today gap to the bottom three could be as little as 2 points today.

really pissed off like everyone else. picking same crap players with no skill and guile, just effort (which is debatable too).
lets start with players with ability in true positions - Iorfa Willo Hause CBJ, Price Saiss, Costa Enobakhare, Bod Dicko
we're stuck with lead boots in goal

Trying to be a bit calm and rational this morning, but there’s a real culture of complacency and mediocrity around Wolves isn’t there? We hand out long term contracts like sweeties to inadequate players and we tolerate back room staff who are just not up to the job. We have a goalkeeping coach who has consistently failed to sort out Ikeme’s footwork – I’d have sent Ikeme to Barnet and given Burgoyne an extended run – and we have a fitness coach who looks like he spends his days eating pies. As for Thelwell…
We desperately need a total clear out, and if results and performances are not better over the next three games that will have to include Lambert. Much is made of him “not having a pre-season with the players” but fuck it, he’s had four months. Can anyone see any discernible sign of progress? Anyone? Anywhere?
And now we read that Hause and Graham have been disciplined. I hesitate to ask this, but is Lambert losing the young, black players at the club? God knows we need their potential and their pace – Weimann and Marshall (a player who also looks like he spends the day eating pies) are never going to get us promoted and I simply refuse to believe that Iorfa is our third-best right back.
This forum has a long and honourable tradition of ridiculing the managerial abilities of Ian Holloway and Neil Warnock: the simple fact is that right now both of them are doing far better jobs than the manager of Wolves.

One for older forum members: knew Weimann reminded me of someone. He's a very, very poor man's Steve Kindon.

Bit harsh on Tony Daley, he's fairly shredded tbh Norman!

Other than that I completely agree with your post.

Interestingly I found this on Daley's twitter (from last season)

Shows how hard our fullbacks actually work, regardless of appearence. But what's more interesting is this is replicated across all areas of the team, which leads back to the inevitable conclusion that we have players who run a lot but can't actually play football. I appreciate many of us already knew that, but it's interesting to see some info to back it up....

Agree with all of that.

The team is being packed out with mediocre League 1 standard players that have failed us time and time again. Not only that but we are rewarding them with long term contracts for no reason.

I found it unbelievable that despite Birmingham being down to 10 men and us playing woefully he chose not to make any changes other than Dicko at half time. I am seriously concerned about the 'R' word now and I don't see things improving under Lambert.

I was an early critic of Lambert and for a few weeks, I held my hands up and said I was wrong. Now I think I was right in the first place. He is no better than Zenga was, maybe worse and he is simply disciple of Thelwell's project of mediocrity.

I would be happy for Fosun to bin the lot of them today.

Yes, we probably have a group of players who can do as instructed (providing the instructions are limited), but do not seem to have the instinct to 'play football'.

Didn't really post very well...look @tonydaley7 for the actual.pic in his media!

Anyway it shows:

Doc total distance 1043m (113m per min)
High sprint rate: 1007m (11 m/min)
Number of sprints: 42 (0.51 per min)

Opposition fullbacks
Td: 10002 (114 m per min)
Hsr: 1054 (8.4m/min)
No. Of sprints: 44 (0.50/min).

It would be interesting to see the stats from a team playing Barca from say, a couple of years ago. Opposition runs around all day 'cos they don't have the ball. Barca players stroke it to each other. As the old saying has it, "make the ball do the work." I may be wrong on the stats but as someone has already said, we desperately need to prioritise skill and technique over "putting a shift in."

Ikeme, Batth, Stearmen, Doherty, Saville, Price and Edwards are players that need moving on if we ever have an aspiration to even challenge for the top 6.
All of the above are bottom 6 championship or league 1 players. May seem harsh on Price but last night highlighted his limitations.

Just the sight of their names is enough to piss me off these days let alone watching them play.

Forgot to put Coady on that list also.

I'm still in Jack's corner after last night. He fluffed up a few times, and is limited, needs time on ball etc. But the lad can send a fucking ball. At times his passing is so good. Maybe if he had a bit more effort and football brains around him we'd see more of it. Last night going left or right to where both the fullback and winger were clogging the same line on top of eachother seemed his only option half the time.

I am a bit worried by the mobility/movement/attacking of Saiss+Price but I still want to see it.

It's this abuse of statistics which is clearly driving the selection of players and shows a staggering lack of understanding of football as a game. It is what happens when you give utter fuckwits data they can't manipulate or understand.

As Norman says in a roundabout way, unless you have context for those running stats they are as useful as deck chair in a hurricane.

These players aren't as bad as they are showing, I'm sure of that, but they are being driven by a plan that is an abject failure and that needs to stop immediately.
