Newbridge, things are changing on the lorry front, new lower cabs, more glass, more cameras, FORS accreditation etc

It’s legal for a motor bike, I’d imagine it’s much the same for a push bike. I’ll always undertake, if possible, when the cars are stuck in a jam. In this case looks a bit of a stupid action, but doesn’t mean the cyclist is legally at fault.
Mate, cyclists are never at fault 😉

Rule 167.....do not overtake when approaching a junction on either side.
If you are following a cycle, do not overtake if you plan on turning left at the next junction or roundabout. As I understand it Cambridgewolf had not overtaken the cyclist.....its the cyclists fault.....luckily he wasn't hurt

Tipper wagons are no longer exempted from having side rails IIRC.

In London most deaths to cyclists were caused by them being dragged under the rear wheels on LH turns.

Thanks for the replies.

Interesting to see the cyclist is not without blame. Initially his defence was he was in a cycle lane and it certainly appeared his view was that was some kind of legal force field exonerating him of any blame.

Funnily enough, being mild today washed the van and noticed some more significant damage lower down that looks like it would’ve been caused by a pedal. Pretty pissed off about that as only had the van 10 days ☹️. Does make you think about what you can actually do if a cyclist damages your vehicle and it’s their fault - it’s happened to me in a car once before at a sizeable repair cost too.

I guess that would take us off down a more divisive route best left alone as touched on previously in the cycling thread, but something doesn’t sit quite right about enforcement of penalty only being one way.

Oh well, will take the reminder never to switch off and move on. Only takes a split second and all that.

Advice relating to unfair parking charge notice.

I have received a letter through the post advising me of a £100 fine from a parking company affiliated with a local bingo hall.

Here’s the facts.

1) I wasn’t the driver of the car, that was my wife. Bingo isn’t really my thing, I was at home.
2)My wife was a legitimate visitor to the bingo facility on the day of the charge, there are two friends who can collaborate this fact. I have a bank transaction dated for the following day but no receipt or other proof from the Bingo company…..though I’m sure we can get hold of some record from them.
3)There is a machine in the bingo hall which requires entry of the vehicle registration number, the wife claims to have entered the details having been advised to do so by her friend who was with her, on doing so she was shown an image of the car before confirming that the car was ours. Again the two friends who were with her can also confirm this to be the case if needed.

A quick question really given that I’m obviously not going to pay the fine. Should I simply write to the company and tell them I wasn’t the driver and provide them with my wife’s details so that she can then appeal directly herself? Or should I simply relay the message on her behalf and provide the relevant supporting evidence…. I guesse the concern is that if I were to appeal on her behalf I might weaken her/my case, I wasn’t there so can’t know for sure that the info was entered into a machine? My wife on the other hand is one of three witnesses.

Ive been done by these pricks before, that was unfair too, but I paid the fine as couldn’t be bothered with the hassle. I have regretted it ever since and vowed not to do so again.

I did however more recently pay a fine at a local Aldi as I had forgotten to enter my number plate that day. My mistake, my fault…..so I paid up.

What do you think folks?

All you have to do (or should) is take the notice down to the bingo hall and show it the the manager. He will have a way of contacting the parking firm and cancelling the penalty notice.
They should do that without question.
I had one at an Aldi and went to see the manager (we'd been shopping there) and they just contacted them and dismissed the fine

Hang on a minute, repeat offender!
Ha, noooo… not having that. Was stationary in traffic and a little language student rode into the back of me damaging the car with her metal basket. Shrugged her shoulders and pedalled off into the sunset. Made my share of mistakes over the years no doubt, but doesn’t stop it grating when you’re on the receiving end.

Perfect, thanks darlow! Will try that then.

Are people who wear Barbour jackets twats? Thinking of getting one but don't want to appear even more of a twat.

Barbour jackets should only ever be worn by trials motorcyclists or outdoor pursuit people, that's what they were designed for....everyone else wearing them are twats of the highest order...especially in conjuction with flat cap, wellies and Labrador

Can't imagine Dougie Lampkin sporting one.
