The Advice Thread

Thanks for the input guys, daughter uses map my walk so have a look at that and strava

I use RideWithGPS to plot routes. It's the only platform that retains the turn by turn direction notifications when I upload it to my Garmin.

Thanks for all the advice, I've gone with Strava for now...seems todo what I need currently

One of the joys of getting older is that every time I get a new car, it takes longer and longer to learn the registration number, and it's needed more and more often in car parks etc.

So, basically I'm looking to buy a couple of cheap registration numbers, so first question is, where from? I've looked at a couple of sites and they seem to be insistent that you want something specific, whereas I don't actually care...

Second question - what happens when you then swap the car over? I can see that there seems to be an £80 fee that the DVLA charge you, but do you have to pay that to remove and again to put it on the new one, or do you pay once?

And if you sell the car on but want to keep the plate, how on earth does getting a new one for the old car work? Do I have to do it?

Putting it on the car - charged
removing from the car - charged

If you are selling the car you just tell the DVLA you want to remove the number plate and then they will allocate a registration number for it (99 out of a 100 it will be the number plate it had before the private plate went on). Obviously don't sell it until the new log book has been received.

You could take a picture of your number plate and you’d never forget it then (and then store it in the cloud in case you lose your phone).

Or have it tattooed on your wrist.

One for the computer nerds, at work someone outside the company was trying to send me an Excel file by email as an attachment, but every time my computer received it as a PDF, any ideas ??

The only way the sender isn't an idiot is if you've somehow configured your computer to open Excel files with Adobe.

You've known me enough years to know that isn't the case, haven't you :)

The sender is probably using ‘share’ in excel, rather than just sending it as an attachment. Been a while since I used excel in windows but IIRC one of the options under share is convert to PDF.

So basically what Tredman said then.
