The Athletics Thread...

Never in any doubt, completes the grand slam for him.

Fucking brilliant run. He's a true legend. In your FACE, Gatlin.

Michael Johnson is possibly my favourite pundit for any sport. He's brilliant.

Indeed he is possibly the best out there, Athletics are lucky to have him and Bolt because they are just about keeping the sport credible.

In a perverse way it might have been better for Gatlin to beat Bolt as it would have highlighted how preposterous the whole thing has become, when a man can sprint far faster when he is 33 then when he was 25 and half the field in the final have been proved to be cheats and nobody from the governing body says this is wrong. Cram was wrong when he said Bolt might have saved the sport, instead it has given the IAAF an excuse to stick there head in the sand whilst talking out their arse that they have things under control, ignoring the fact that the powerhouse countries like RUssia, Kenya and Jamaica are serial doping. Cycling carried out 3 times as many tests as Athletics did last year despite having far less competitors and Ireland a minnow carried out far more tests then Jamaica in 2013!

Coe (a Nike ambassador) comes in and the first thing he does is attach the messenger about the latest doping scandal rather then the issue, they sound like the UCI 10 years ago, Athletics needs an "Armstrong" moment to shake them into gear and Gatlin (sponsored by Nike) would have provided it.

Michael Johnson once returned a gold medal because of drugs cheats, when it was found out his relay partners had been using illegal stimulants his relay medal was sent back, he felt it was ill gained.

It was good that Bolt beat the cheat twice, but the real farce is that Gatlin was ever allowed to return to competitive athletics. Twice proven as a cheat, he should have been banned for life. Instead he returns home with two silver medals.

Still the relays to come so he could get a Gold yet

KJT sadly misses out on a long jump medal, but Shara Proctor has just set a national record and is in the lead in the final. Brilliant stuff.

Ah balls - she has to settle for silver. Still, a superb performance.

Dina Asher Smith too in the 200m. No medal but a third PB in three days and a British record to boot. I heard her interviewed after and she is a superstar in the making.

That record by Kathy Cook had stood since the year I left junior school!!

You get the feeling Sky News are pissed off that Paula Radcliffe's drugs test results are clean. Wankers.

There isn't a athlete in the last 30 years I would be more surprised was dodgy than Paula

It's all kicked off in the athletics world.
The world athletic board WADA has recommended that IAAF should suspend Russia from all athletics because of Doping.
They have accused Russia of destroying 1417 test results and have implicated the Russian govt. in the cover up and bribing the newly sacked head of IAAF to ignore dope test results for 2012 Olympics.
