The Bruno Lage Appreciation Thread

Seems harsh to expect a foreigner to understand nuances in a language they aren’t that familiar with in an off the cuff press conference.
He has spent a fair amount of time in England before.

The language isn't new to him.

But in his opinion we “controlled the game”. But his interpretation of it isn’t the same as yours.

It’s not like Dean Smith and other English managers who say things that categorically didn’t happen.

Unless Bruno actually thinks we had 60% possession then yeah, give him pelters.

Tbf most of our European internationals don't start. Only really Moutinho who is first choice

I think I read an article (probably on the athletic) that all of his stats outside of actual saves (speed off his line/one on one's etc) were really good but his big issue was he couldn't jump which was obvious given some of the goals he conceded and why his save percentage was low and they'd identified something they could improve with specific training that would correct this.

I'm saying this as someone who was definitely in the complete waste of money camp when the rumours of arsenal's interest started too.

Could genuinely be any of them.

Neves (although from what I’ve seen I’d be very surprised if he is a complacent character), Coady, Donk, Adama…

Obviously living so far from Wolverhampton now I only watch the games on tv, but it was great to hear Bruno’s name being sung loud and clear yesterday. And it was very audible. I really like the guy -there’s clearly a ton of self-belief, arrogance even, under a pleasantly mild mannered exterior. Seems very coaching-focused.
Can we back him properly for 2 or 3 windows becomes the question…

Tbf people have been singing his name from the off, the cynic in me says that’s because you can easily replace Nuno by Bruno in most songs.

True. You could hear “Bruno Lage’s Barmy Army” very early in the Spurs game.

Palace away was tepid stuff, but on the whole we’re far more enjoyable to watch and with very few new faces

We took no points off Everton or West Ham last season, flukes a win against least twice with spawns goals in both games and scraped past a poor Fulham side. I will take this so far over last season every day . And it’s not just Rauls return. There are other factors. As is an offensive minded keeper who wants to control his area, Semedo has upped his performances, Kidman has been a revelation and moutinho is 20 yards further up the pitch.Yet front to back we are more compact. Lage has made some positive improvements with no new people really

Also Kilman has been a revelation! Didn't know Nicole played for us, but obviously she snuck in under the radar.. :p
Sorry Cyber..

Bastard. 🤣
Stop calling me Cyber! The next person who calls me Cyber needs to face me in a boxing ring for a charity of my choice . 🤣
Cyber is gone and won’t be back. I kept my side

I had never heard of Bruno before we were linked with him - one of the disadvantages in residing in Oz.

The opinions of many here, who I respect, saw it as a very meh appoinment.

But so far he has done very well, without any real backing in the transfer market - ie improving the team with what was already there.

The improvement in Kilman (not Kidman damn auto-correct) has been amazing. He is now a genuine PL CB and could be one the 2 CBs to form a 4.

Early days, I know, but looking very promising.

Think that's only because of such little track record to go off. He had a great start at Benfica and then it went south so depending on your position he'd either done really well, poorly or most would just not really have enough to go on.

There's little differences to our play, our line is slightly higher but the rest of the team are compact, whereas for so long we played 52......3 which basically only gave us the counter to cause damage. We are more fluid now though and quite good to watch, the fact we keep the ball better has been the biggest reason we concede so few, along with Kilman being geniunely class.

Would like us to give him decent money for the 2/3 players that I feel could really push us on, especially based on what Lage has done with us so far. I'm quite sure Adama will be moving on so that should give us a bit of a pot to work with.
