The Bruno Lage Appreciation Thread

We didn't though, did we.

The "bandwagon" is there because we look shite.

Man United are unbeaten away from home for 28 games, they've beat us at our place the last three times they've played here. They've improved their squad and we haven't - but you're still think they're very beatable?
Yeah and that’s how it played out. A draw is an ok result, only needs a bit of luck to turn that to a win. That’s what happens in football. On this occasion we didn’t need luck, we outplayed them and lost.
United , the united unbeaten in 29 away premier matches. Jesus! Leicester , a week after they beat Man City, and a Spurs team led by Nuno keen to get one over his old employer and knowing the exact abilities of the team and setting up accordingly. Very beatable my fanny. Where is the laughing emoji when you need it? Absolute tosh.
See above. Unbeaten doesn’t mean they won them all. “Beatable” doesn’t mean I expected a win.

What Leicester and Spurs did in previous games is irrelevant. Especially when Spurs have won 3 games and they deserved to win 0.
I fear there is an element on here that will be forever Nuno and nothing else will come close to the mark.
I was anti Nuno pro Bruno. Try again
Lage appears to be an excellent coach working within some very strict parameters set by his employers. There has been enough debate regarding the squad , the recruitment and the style. The squad is too small ,lacks depth in the right areas and the recruitment has been horrendous pretty much for a number of years. But expecting us to beat teams who we couldn't beat last year with the same team as this year is the definition of madness.
Try comprehension cyber before going off on your classic rants. I didn’t Say expected to win. I said beatable. That also doesn’t means I expect to lose. I expected to compete, had a chance of winning but a draw was ok. We drew 0 and lost 3.
Doing the same thing and expecting a different outcome. We gave all three teams much better games and got nothing because we cant finish. Its as simple as that.
I know it is. That’s why we need some results, otherwise he will get sacked. Like I said (if you actually read what I put), I don’t think we will be on 6 points from 10 games.

I don't get this forum sometimes

We've heard how we've had 6 awful transfer windows.
The manager hasn't been backed and cut off at the knees
We've down graded the goal keeper
We're poor at both ends
We can't score and don't look like scoring
Our CBs are rubbish
Our midfield is easily overrun

And

We should be taking points off teams in Europe

Diego Martinez never got another gig after leaving Granada? Not completely sure what happened there but…

Spurs have a manager who was the last man standing in a recruitment process, were without their best player for the majority of the game and were in turmoil off the pitch due to him wanting out, they only finished 7th last season and we have a good record against them by and large since promotion. Damn right we should expect a point against them. I think it'd be a realistic expectation for ANY PL side at home. If you don't have an expectation that you can get a point at home against the 7th best side in the league then you shouldn't be in the same division

So maybe the forum should stop wanking off about our 0-1 defeats.

It's 2 wins in 7 now against them, 1 draw in 7. We aren't as good as we were when we beat them.

I know which way I'll put my money next time we play them in the league.

Lord knows how the cup game will turn out.

I know which one will finish higher in the league.

I give it a month until the Bruno love fades. Losing gets really old really quickly.

I don't think it is an overreaction in fairness. We've lost 4 games out of 5. We have scored one goal and Watford scored one for us out of nothing, off a nothing cross (a familiar theme). That's it.
Again i know we've lost 4 out of 5 and that doesn't look great but if you can't see that we actually played well overall in 4 of them i'm not sure what you were watching. As i will point out, win doesn't automatically mean good performance and lose doesn't mean shit performance. To be fair to Marcal it wasn't a nothing cross, it was actually quite a good delivery and the other goal was a pretty good move albeit a scrappy finish
We don't score and we can't defend. You see the problem I have here.

It's fine to say "it's too early" but what if this is still the case in another couple of games? Or five? We're a very easy team to play against, I think.
Yes we don't score but it's not like we're not creating chances is it, we're creating far more than last season but we aren't clinical and that's more down to the players we have. We haven't been that bad defensively either, we barely gave chances away in our first four games and in this league everyone is going to create something. We had a bad spell in a game where we lost head and a physical striker bullied our back 3 which we've seen several times before, it's nothing new.

As i've said if we continue to not pick up points then something needs to be done but i'm not sure another manager magically gets these players finishing all the chances we create although it might just click but the same goes right now under Bruno. I know he had credit in the bank but had we played like this under Nuno the criticism would not be anywhere near this imo.

Realistically I think we need 6-7 points from the next 4 games, a tough ask I know but otherwise the pressure on Lage will just be too much and doubt he will survive long after that.

I think we will get them if we play anywhere near how we did in the first 4 games. I hope Brentford was a one off

I don’t see why we can’t, and won’t.

a lot of negativity currently which I do grt, however some of it is abit ‘doom and gloom’ already. Yes we haven’t got the points, or goals etc thus far but we’ve had 1 bad performance in 5. That being said, next 4 games are crucial as points are the currency you want to be dealing in, but I’m still not overly worried.

again, im not overly worried about our fixtures in December. Playing the better teams with the players we have (pace wise) will mean we can exploit gaps and likely create chances against them. Not saying we will go in as favourites etc, but again people seem to be writing off that passage of fixtures already.

our best 3 performances have come against leicester, United and Spurs who will finish higher than Watford and Brentford, for example.

if we’re 6/7 from 10 games il start to feel more concerned

Losing to the 'better' sides and hoping to rely on points against those around you is not a great strategy though is it. As it rather works out as neatly for that, you need those unexpected wins.

It's not a strategy though is it?

It's my expectation on how a game will turn out, it's not me saying it's fine to lose to better teams. By the nature of the beast, teams which are better than us will tend to beat us.

Expecting us to beat better teams defies logic, for me anyway.

It's interesting that our form has more or less continued from the end of last season.
Last 5 fixtures 2020/21 - LWLLL F: 3 A: 10
First 5 fixtures 2021/22 - LLLWL F: 2 A: 5

So weirdly, we've got the same amount of points, scored roughly the same amount of goals (0.6pg vs 0.4pg) but conceded half as many goals this season as last.

Yet people were happy with Nuno but are now apparently getting restless with Bruno already.

The bloke is implementing a new style of play. Time will tell whether he can do it successfully, but it's still very early days.
