The Championship Thread 2018/19

Stoke , Middlesbrough for me.Sheffield Utd as dark horses. Swansea and Derby Play offs with Leeds or Forest. Wigan and Blackburn may have surprise capability too.

Birmingham, Rotherham , Reading

4 games in Rowetts got some work to do! Newcastle had a shit start in 2016 but still won it so nothings won or lost in august. Managers can be sacked though and Rowetts on thin ice already. They looked shite so far and even with Williams and Mclean they should be a lot better. Underperforming.

I spoke to Callum Davidson (Stoke assistant manager) before the season started, he was very pessimistic then but I doubt he thought they'd be this bad.

Its going to be tighter than ever this season. My guess is that no teams will break away unlike last year.

Look at the points difference between top and 14th - 5 points.

Interesting......

Leeds have won three out of nine since August. Top.

Absolutely shit league.

Watched Albion v Derby tonight and Derby put in the best performance I've seen in that league so far this season. Very impressive, full of energy, didn't let Albion have a sniff and looked dangerous every time they went forward.

Absolutely fucking shite division. Nobody even vaguely good in there this year. I would back Cardiff to beat them all.

After 14 games last season:

Sheff Utd 30
Wolves 29
Cardiff 28
Bristol City 24
Leeds 23
Aston Villa 22

This year:

Leeds 26
Middlesbrough 26
Sheff Utd 26
West Brom 24
Derby 24
Norwich 24

Albion have already lost four, we only lost seven all season and one of those was on the last day when we were more than slightly on the beach.

This just isn't sustainable.

Fucking hell - that's pretty shocking.

I do wonder if other teams will cotton on to Derby's tactics from last night? They gave Albion absolutely no room whatsoever in midfield - as soon as Derby lost the ball, they pressed and won it back very quickly. Gayle barely got a touch (I can't remember hearing Robson-Kanu's name mentioned once after he replaced Gayle at half time) and they couldn't get Barnes into the game much either. They were completely nullified.

Their defence was Johnson-Gorkss esque too - those stats aren't misleading on that evidence.

They try to play out from the back with the likes of Hegazi, Dawson, Bartley and Mears. It’ll never work, they’re attitude is a bit of a case of we’ll out score you.
They’ve got some good forward players Gayle, Barnes and Rodriguez but the rest are limited. The weaker sides in the league they’ll be fine but will struggle against any side of decent quality.
I agree the quality in the league this season is poor and whoever comes up needs severe investment.

The EFL has written to FIFA to ask if the rules can be changed to allow its clubs to sign players on loan outside of the transfer windows.
