The CHRISTMAS Thread

Day 13, a candle 😀

Absolutely pissing down here, dark as night. Might light me candle and put a Xmas film on 😀

Just been and got my last few bits of pressie shopping. I was surprised how busy town was given its a Sunday morning and it's generally been very quiet.

Some family members that we can't mix with, or see came and dropped cards and gifts round on the doorstep. Had a chat through the door. Friends have had flowers delivered instead of exchanging gifts face to face.

Strange Christmas this is gonna be. First year I've ever wanted Christmas to be over and done with.

Christmas, meh... I'm working a 12 hour nightshift on the 23rd and 24th, I'm working 3pm to midnight on Boxing Day and 05-30 start on New Years Day... Goodbye Christmas drinks

Boxing Day is our "Christmas Day" for my kids and Grandkids but it was clear that it was never going to be an option this year so I will be delivering prezzies on 21st and 22nd with social distancing and no entering the houses and we've agreed to have a BBQ at mine next spring/summer when we are allowed to

Might actually be the first Christmas in well over 10 years I'll not be working. Will be very strange...

That's exactly what we said, next Summer all being well we are having a garden party/bbq/ piss up/ and hiring a bus and driver to pick up and drop back home.

Going to have my 70th b'day (a year and a bit late) & book a family holiday somewhere in the middle of next year assuming that we can coordinate holiday periods for them.

Have written 2020 off

You don’t look a day over 69 and 3/4s! :)

Not been whammed yet. Xmas radio currently on in the department next to me so probably won't be long.

Fuck, just realised I was whammed during my really annoying pointless 4 hour meeting this morning

4hr meeting? Jesus.... that's a bit excessive no?

I make a point of scheduling all mine for 30 mins, and if we run over time, I ask attendees to follow up via email or schedule another meeting if it's urgent

What can you do - its a client, they wanted to brainstorm their innovative programme for next year 🤷‍♂️. Its not very often I charge myself out on my (very excessive) hourly rate, but this was one of those occasions.

Wouldn't a Powerpoint presentation followed up by a, somewhat shorter, discussion would have been easier option.
At the end of the day, was it worth it ?

It’s all about miro these days!

It was interesting enough - inviting me to help with strategy usually results in lots of POs for us :) plus we got paid for it.

Half a day meetings aren't uncommon for us.

Design team meetings on live projects will easily run that long, will be some that dip in and out through that period but be a decent sized group involved throughout. Similar when we have settlement meetings on tenders, previously that occasionally ran into whole day affairs but we've start to split them down into sections, still can easily fill half a day with some of the broken down meetings on a complex project though.

Still not been Whammed yet...made it to the 21st last year, so closing in on a personal best!
