The Cricket Thread

He is (after a rusty start). Taking wickets in Division Two of the Championship has never been an issue for him though.

He's only on the list because I don't trust us not to do something stupid... (and we are legit short on fit seam bowlers in at least the short term, as it happens)

Ollie Robinson and Dom Sibley have been selected for a County Select XI squad that will play New Zealand in a four-day warm-up match in Chelmsford from Thursday.

County Select XI squad: Jack Blatherwick (Lancashire), Michael Burgess (Warwickshire), Ben Compton (Kent), Ben Gibbon (Worcestershire), Nick Gubbins (Hampshire), Tom Haines (Sussex), Lyndon James (Nottinghamshire), Ryan Patel (Surrey), Liam Patterson-White (Nottinghamshire), Jamie Porter (Essex), Ollie Robinson (Sussex), Dom Sibley (Warwickshire).

60* off 27 for Brook in the T20 this evening.

Should be straight in the XI in this form...

Paul Stirling 5 6's, but the last ball went for a 4

Harry Brook - 72 off 48 tonight vs Lancashire

Match Tied

Went to the Derbyshire vs 'Warwickshire' game tonight. We have the batting and spin bowling to win it, but boy the quicks. Henry Brookes was kicked out of the attack for back to back beamers, although neither were overly dangerous and the tub of lard who they are paying a fortune to be captain...Good god.

Jamie Porter has 5-6 in the tour game vs NZ.

NZ 19/6 and only 134 in front.

Compton made 119 in the end. Should win this within the hour.

No word as yet whether Compton would even want to play for England rather than SA, I think he is qualified due to ancestry (pretty sure you're still grand with his ancestry and he hasn't represented SA at any level so no qualifiying/residency period required). I know he hasn't been playing for very long but he's in rare form.

There was an article on him in the Guardian. He’s been trying to make it for years, got a contract with Nottinghamshire but got nowhere but now is excelling at Kent. Top run scorer in the 2nd XI championship season in the past.

Yeah, sorry, I mean he's hardly played any actual FC cricket (16 games, and some of them were in Zimbabwe so comes with its own caveats). He's been trying hard to get in for a while.

Apparently he believes he can play white ball cricket effectively but if you get pigeonholed as a four day player only and you don't have much of a track record then a lot of counties will overlook you these days, as for a large portion of the season you're earning but not playing at all.

I'm of the view that the keeper these days needs to be a genuine batsman. After that you pick your best 4 bowlers though even if that means the tail starts at 8
