The Cricket Thread

55 games in 5 years in all competitions and out injured again until September tells you the answer to that.

SA win the Toss again and decide to bat
No changes for England

I think it's fair to say that the England bowlers have been average at best, so far.
Each of these games we have had to rely on our bowlers so need them to step up after the rain break.

To be honest there is one big reason, there isn't anyone else.

Haines and Compton were about the closest to knocking on the door vs NZ/India. One is now injured and the other has dropped off significantly (this was always the concern when his CV was so thin).

Not a single other viable candidate to open. We won't go back to Burns, Sibley, Denly etc. Nor should we because none of them are good enough and none are likely to improve.

Hameed is about the only one with a squeak of a chance but he looked bloody awful in Australia.

Woakes to have more surgery on his heel. That's another 4/6 weeks.

It's his knee.

Honestly wouldn't be surprised if he never plays for England again. He's 33 now, we surely won't pick him overseas again in Tests and he won't be ready for the T20 World Cup.
