Alonso was penalised 20s race time for the incident that caused Russell to crash.

Definitely sounded like a lift from Alonso going into the apex, which closed George right up. Certainly compared to the on boards from the lap before it was obvious there was a deceleration that didn't happen previously.
Stewards said big lift, tap of the brake, downshift. Then up shift with a bit of acceleration before braking properly for the corner. Alonso admitted he “just got it wrong” and was trying to just get a better exit for the straight. So because of that acceptance (and that’s the didn’t do that at any other time in the race) theyve given the penalty.

If Alonso did this and it seems they have judged he did, then the penalty should be bigger. It was very dangerous and could have had even more serious consequences for a fellow competitor than it did. Thankfully Russell is OK but I wonder how much financially this will cost Mercedes to fix the car?

Rumblings in the NZ press that Danny Ric has been given a couple of races to sort his shit out or Liam Lawson will take his seat for the rest of the season.

Red Bull will then use that as an audition for him to replace Perez next year (should Sainz say no to them)

Ricciardo has been done for a while, he gets an easy ride in general because he’s so likeable but he was a disaster at Mclaren and not been near Yuki at Alpha Rosso RB Credit Card. Lawson coming in and doing well last season will make them quicker to pull the plug on Ric now.

I can't see them keeping Perez, so it's probably Sainz v Albon for that seat. Unless of course, Max stomps off with the internal issues at Red Bull and they end up with both of them.

Albon is under contract to Williams for another year, so they'd have to pay to get him.

A slightly better race despite the Red Bull 1-2. Some good battles behind them. If all races were this time of day or late in the evening, you wouldn't mind so much the predictability of it all - it's just you don't want to lose a whole Sunday afternoon watching it.

Sainz will likely go to Merc then as long as Max doesn't quit.

Max would not want Leclerc, Hamilton, Sainz or Norris in the Red Bull. Probably wouldn’t be wildly overjoyed about Russell either.

Not sure he'd have much to worry about given the gulf last time they drove the same car.
Errr, what gulf? They were pretty evenly matched. Factors outside their individual control was most often the deciding factor between them.

Don't think he would mind Sainz or Norris.
More fool him then. Lando in the best equipment would be a very serious danger.

Max is looking for exactly what Lewis had in Bottas. Not good enough to challenge but more than capable of hoovering up loads of second places to deny others points.

Oh and compliant of team orders are needed.

Max has all this with Sergio right now. Why would he want a change. Anywhere at Red Bull bar the name on the team principals office door?

Apologies, forgot Max got promoted mid season and their result were almost identical for those few races in 2016. Max did put Sainz significantly in the shade when they had the full season together the previous year though.

I doubt Max would fear anyone as a team mate at the minute, he's got the fastest car on the grid and it's build exactly to suit his driving style, which isn't replicated by many. Chances are anyone else that comes in doesn't gel with that car in the same way he does, saw something recently Albon had said about the way it affected him, and they're not going to change their development path from something so successful to suit the driver who isn't reigning world champion.

I imagine he'd have far bigger reservations if looking for a new team, then he'd probably have bigger hurdles to overcome in getting such a tailored setup.

Sergio isn't good enough in that car to get consistent 2nd places. His form has been terrible the last year.

Well the weather in China makes the Sprint Race quali interesting

Lando nabs pole from Lewis (at one point Lando's time was deleted but then got reinstated)

Max in 4th so will have a lap or 2 before he can get in front and win
