I thought The Batman was surprisingly decent. It was too long but at least it managed to keep your interest throughout. Pattinson is a decent Batman too. The film is never gonna be as good as the Nolan films, but it's way better than Affleck.

I also watched Phantom Of The Open. A quirky comedy about an old bloke who enters the British Open (golf) by pretending to be a professional, even though he's only just taken the sport up. With Mark Rylance and Sally Hawkins who are both great.

Very funny, very British, and a nice pleasant watch. Different to the usual raft of blockbuster films nowadays and it's based on a true story. Very entertaining and definitely recommended.

Just back from seeing The Batman and if I could I'd have gone straight back in and watched it again. Fucking brilliant. So many nods to classic comic storylines (Year One, The Long Halloween and Hush to name a few) and while Nolan's trilogy was an absolute masterpiece I thought this was even better. A few canon issues I had to overlook but the further I got into the film the less they bothered me, and judging by the end there's more to come which I can't wait for. Seems like there are a few HBO spin off series coming as well (Penguin, Arkham) which should be really good.

I never realised until listening to Kermode's review that that was Colin Farrell playing Penguin! Completely unrecognisable.

The only aspect I didn't like was that Batman gave the impression he felt like a bit of an outsider just cleaning up the mess around the edges instead of going straight for the head honchos and getting into big fights regularly.

It's early in his second year, he's only really just starting out. Marone and Falcone were the bosses he took down early on in his career, and while it may not seem like it in the movie the fact he takes down Penguin and Falcone is absolutely massive as he's still finding his way with the police largely either a) on the mob's payroll or b) completely against him. It's so true to form to the early years stories I thought it was superbly done.

Bear, watch this if you haven't already. Deleted scene from the movie, probably one of the best scenes. If anyone hasn't seen the movie don't watch this until you have.

Reeves has said he didn't feel it needed to be in there to make the bigger picture any better, personally I thought it was a brilliant scene. Using criminal profiling would have been perfectly understandable in his early career but yeah, I suppose leaving him until the very end had to be done really.

Got dragged to the pictures by the missus today to see Top Gun 2. I was a bit meh about going. It was much like the original, ridiculous story, ott acting, mawkishly sentimental at times, predictable ending.....it was great fun, enjoyed it very much.

Been on a Marvel binge while I've had the house to myself for a few days, catching up on the few bits I hadn't seen and re-watching some of the earlier stuff. I'd forgotten how good some of them are and the characters running through so many movies/series is mental. Just need to watch the first two Thor movies again and everything will be fresh in the memory again.

Reminds me - I haven't seen Ragnarok in a while and I found the DVD in my Marvel pile yesterday. Tempting for later.

Apropos of absolutely fucking nothing I was bored and channel hopping last night and luckily chanced on ITV4 (I think) just as Predator was starting. I had forgotten how utterly brilliant it is.

"I am a sexual tyrannosaurus" is a great line for Jesse Ventura.

Don't get to the cinema too often but saw Everything Everywhere All at Once last week and really enjoyed it. Interesting premise, excellent fight choreography and pretty funny at times too.

An outstanding set of one liners and an even better back story to the film.
