The Fitness Thread

I'm running in the Gateshead Half Marathon this morning (glamorous, I know), it's only the 2nd race of that distance I've ever done (actually the 1st because the other one was a metric marathon which is 26k not 21k). I'm not at my fittest/leanest ever, so anything in the 1 hour 50 mark will be good enough, especially as there is a brutal hill on the course that you have to go up twice.

Enjoy and good luck! I'd like to hear how the course/event is if you don't mind?

Thanks, finished in 1 hour 48, my partner did it in 1 hour 36, but she has done an age group marathon for England Athletics! Event was good, quite well organised to be Covid safe, you started in waves and had to walk around the track at Gateshead Stadium to the start line in single file. Once you past the start line it was downhill to the Quayside along past the Baltic and the Sage, and you went out and back twice. The last 2 miles of each lap had 3 brutal hills up from the river to finish at the Stadium again. It was enjoyable but tough and I really struggled on the hills on the 2nd lap, especially in the heat. Was on for about 1 hour 45 until the last 3 miles!

1.48 is a really good time! well done!

I'm looking to do some events other than the GNR next year, just not sure what yet

On the 1st Jan this year I weighed 17st 10lbs and with a bmi of 30 I was "obese".
This morning I weighed 14st 9lbs and with a bmi of 24.9 am no longer overweight.
Well done - will really benefit you

Came down from 15st 8lbs to 12st 8 lbs a few years ago & it's really made me feel more mobile & alive.

(only issue is I have had to replace all trousers as the others kept falling down :) )

Thanks all. Yeah, I kept my smaller trousers, I just have to find them...

Northallerton 10k today. Was aiming for sub 1-hour due to injuries over the past year, plus covid.

Accidentally set my Garmin to "indoor run", which did not track distance or splits correctly... Accidentally ran a 49.42! Absolutely delighted with that pace!

Hope you got a nice, cold bottle of water off Alfie

Just signed up for my first ever full marathon  may have bitten off more than I can chew here...

Which one you doing?

As long as you can dedicate the time to training it'll be fine, if you can't it'll be bloody tough.

Manchester! Thought I’d start with the flattest.

I’m running around 30ish miles per week atm - been looking around for a decent training plan, but hopefully won’t need to go beyond 40ish per week so shouldn’t be that much if a stretch to train.
