The Football Coaching Thread

Would be interested to see him talk about what he offers or advises the team on. I always get annoyed with the total passes or successful passes stats they put up in game. If that's two CBs passing the ball to each other I want that to be a minimum of 98% accounting for maybe the odd errant pass under pressure, so having just the total team number is just stats for the sake of the broadcast. I'd also want successful passes pressured and umpressured if I was a manager, as well as time of pass from receiving it for certain areas and moments.

Indeed its one thing to present data, its another to present data that can be used to improve performance.
I would like to see which players when presented with certain situations ( overloads ) were consistently capable of taking advantage while others couldn't.

The tactical game is changing very quickly showing up pundits who played under different theory.

The rise of system football means that the English league today has less broken play, and more periods of controlled possession. In 2008, Premier League teams averaged almost 24 tackles per game. By 2017-18 the average number of tackles had dropped by almost a third, to just over 16 per game. Huddersfield Town topped the tackle table in 2017-18, with 744.

Local village club have asked me to coach the under 10's, my qualifications being

a) am down every session with my own lad
b) have been helping coach essentially the same set of kids Gaelic Football for the last 2 years and killed none of the little bleeders.
c) No-one else will do it.

So looking for a few pointers from those who know what they are doing regarding decent websites for drills etc.

The coaching manual on Twitter is an excellent place to start. Lots of age and ability specific drills.

Personally for me it’s about touches on the ball, no queuing of players, being imaginative and fun with your practices. Be prepared for the players and drills to look like organised chaos not regimented drills and remember they’re 9 and 10 not Messi and Ronaldo. Oh and plenty of touches (I can’t say that enough).

No more than 5v5 in any game and lastly, have fun, if you are it stands a good chance they will.

From a welfare perspective be honest about your vision. Presumably you are playing 7vs7, if your ethos is best team plays the most we are here to win then make that clear. If it's about enjoyment and broadly equal gametime then tell them that, but live by it irrespective of talent disparity.

Coever has a lot of decent stuff online in terms of ball mastery, although I find it difficult to translate directly into games

Cheers, will look at that site.
Yeah to be honest just looking at all of them playing as much as possible regardless of ability (it's the clubs philosophy) at that age, results don't really matter.

Nice one, echo what has been said below. Keepitonthedeck are quite good on facebook tbf (some similar content to coaching manual).

In the main, just keep it fun :) Kids love playing games!

Would agree with what the other guys have said regarding the coaching manual and keepitonthedeck and will 100% agree with YW and Johnny that it's all about fun. Football should be fun no matter what the situation and if the players lose that it's not worth playing.

What i would say in terms of however you coach as long as you have the kids best interests as the main thing including having fun, developing them into better players, helping them to develop in to better people etc... is to do it your way by taking good practices you've seen and constantly adapt and develop.

When it comes down to playing football i would say get them lots of touches of the football, encourage them to express themselves and to solve their own problems that happen during the game. To beat the same drum again though the most important thing is that you and all the players enjoy it.
