This is good for the league in competition terms because for years we had the big 4 (Arsenal, United, Liverpool & Chelsea) then City got oil rich turning it into a big 5 then Spurs came along turning into the top 6 now with us, (soon to be oil rich Newcastle and Leicester we could be looking at a top 9 all vying for the European places. Im not suggesting a City or Liverpool would be in the 8th & 9th places but it’s exciting times indeed

1) Substitutions; To prevent time-wasting, players will now have to leave the pitch at the nearest point.

2) Defensive wall; If there are more than three players in a defensive wall (so pretty much every free-kick that will be a shot at goal) attackers are not allowed within one yard of the wall.

3) Drop balls; Drop balls are now a thing of history, they are gone from next season. Instead of a drop ball, the last team to touch the ball will get possession but whether that team decides to give the ball back to the other side remains to be seen.

Another development is that if play is stopped with the ball in the penalty area, it will restart with the goalkeeper.

4) Penalties; As part of a crackdown on gamesmanship, goalkeepers can't touch the frame of the goal, have to have one boot touching the line and can't stand behind the line. Keepers are also not allowed to feign movement one way in an attempt to bluff the taker.

5) Goal-kicks; Up to this point, a goal-kick was not in play until it left the area, but now, the ball is in play from the moment it is touched.

6) Accidental handball; From next year any goal scored from the arm - accidental or deliberate - will not count.

If the ball touches an attacking player's arm in the build-up to a goal - accidental or not - the goal will not count.

Some good ones in that but a few that are absolute balls

The penalties one would make more sense if they also stopped the penalty taker from "feigning a shot" or stopped any "stutter" in the run up

It’s to stop the bullshit rule where a defender can’t receive the ball in the area (which has been used as a form of time wasting). So a defender will be able to receive the ball in the area but I assume attackers still won’t be allowed in until the Ball has been played.

Correct. Will mainly benefit teams who try to play out from the back really anyway.

Lloris could have some right hairy moments as I don't think he ever looks as competent with the ball as he really needs to be to play that way, the other two could just end up with some bizarre routines given how comfortable and able their keepers are with the ball.

City will just do exactly what they do in open play with their centre backs pretty close to Ederson. Think most teams will just sit off of them as it is nearly pointless pressing them unless you are exceptional at it. Spurs and Liverpool are pretty similar

thing with the goal kick rule is that if a keeper under hits the kick, and a striker bears in, if the defender comes and touches the ball, it isn't an indirect free kick, the goal kick has to be taken again. I read somewhere that the powers that be felt this was slightly unfair, as the attacking team lose a potential advantage. This way, they don't.

I follow a lad on twitter who is a Bury fan and that is a sad situation. Much of the ire directed at the owner/ chairman who seems to be some sort of Norman Smurthwaite clone.

Good luck to Bury they don't deserve that, particularly after the fine season they've just had.

Ryan Lowe has done a fantastic job. He is hanging on in the hope that it will be sorted out but time will run out eventually and he will get good offers elsewhere.

Bury have been varying degrees of a basket case club for the last 20 years in fairness. They're properly done over by location, who lives round there and wants to go to Gigg Lane? Two of the biggest clubs in Europe on your doorstep and bigger Greater Manchester clubs easily in reach too.
