The Golf Thread

460cc driver is an absolute cabbage. Should have a big sweet spot which will help you as a starter. Having met you I don't think you need the lengths of the shafts adjusted from standard and these clubs have regular flex shafts which is good for a beginner - don't buy stiff or extra-stiff shafts when just starting the game.

Also - having a rescue club rather than 3 or 4 iron is a good thing. 3 and 4 irons are quite tough to hit when you start (I carry 3,4 iron and only a 5 wood but I have been playing badly for over 20 years - I gave up my 2 iron because it is ridiculously hard to hit one. And never buy a 1 iron - even God has never hit one of those flush.

Dual channel alignment for the putter sounds like you can hit it both right and left-handed but god knows as I can't see it closely enough.

It looks a good set. Having said that - £119 don't expect miracles. You could probably go to somewhere like Nevada Bob's and get a very decent set of Wilson staff clubs for not a lot more.

I recommend buying clubs off e-bay. You can buy a set of clubs that are 6 months old for a fraction of the price they are new. I always buy mine off e-bay.

Don't buy them from china, though, you might receive a polystyrene box with nothing in.

Cheers chaps. Certainly not expecting a set at that cost to last, but more to see if it's a game I progress well enough at to take seriously and spend properly then. I know there's a case for 'buy cheap. buy twice' but I'd rather that than 'buy expensive, be shit, and *really* regret it'. I also like the worm :gayrepost:

Cheers Penk, watching that Ping set

I played 9 holes on a Par 3 course in Amsterdam around a month ago. First time I had ever held a golf club and loved it.

I'm planning on doing a few more pitch and putts over the summer to see if it is something I can do more. I no longer play football so I need a new sporting hobby.

Himley Hall or Cannock Park is a good place to start.

Cheers.

The course in Amsterdam was quite hard for a beginner. Water bloody everywhere!

Best I did was a 5 and worst was an 8. which I thought was pretty decent considering it was the first time I had played the game.

2 highlights - Hitting my tee shot and nearly taking my brothers head off as he stood on the green with the first group and beautifully hitting my ball from the very edge of a pond, in between 2 trees and safely onto the green. Shame I am shit at putting though

Lowlight - Ball on very egde of grass with a tarmac path running behind it. Swing club and hit 2cm short of the ball - Golf club + tarmac = Knackered wrist.

Del and Kenny if you are serious about taking up golf may I respectfully suggest that you invest in a few lessons with a pro.

Sometimes you can get some good deals with the golf pro at the local club. He may also have some good trade-in clubs on sale as well.

You could probably get lessons at the driving range at three hammers. Not a bad place to hit a few balls plus the fox and anchor is there for a post-lesson bevoir

Definitely will be taking a couple of lessons. About £30/half hour seems standard?

I have a set of clubs that are no longer needed. They are a few years old, but I would happily give them away if anyone wants them.

They are yours Kenny. I have taken the good lady away for a few days, on my return early next week I will arrange to get them to you. Do you live in Wolverhampton?

They are nothing special, just a set I purchased about 7 years ago, and used them while hacking my way around the golf courses in Leicestershire. People used to shout "FORE!!" before I played my shots.

Thank you sir.

I live in Darlaston, we'll sort out the logistics when you are back home then

Any of you regular golfers have any good driver covers? I have this for my King Cobra M-Speed:

It's a bear geddit? :D

I have a tasmanian devil. I want to get Wolfie in his kit from the clubshop because I am totally and completely sad.

Pad - You up for some pitching and putting with a complete Golf noobie once the season is over?

Make it the Hammers and I'll caddy for either of you as I can walk it there. I'm not playing though.
