He went to Stoke and froze, it was too big for him. He's comfortable where he's at, not for me.

He's only a little over 5 years serving as a Manager at this level . He has plenty of time .

Name any other British Manager that has made the impression he has over the last 5 years . He has brought them from the lower end of League 2 to 12th in the Championship , and there's more to come I'd bargain .
It'll be interesting to watch their progress next season at the very least .

I think Stoke was a difficult job. Lots of player turnover after relegation and a bad atmosphere around the club. He clearly fell out with a number of players but a steady, experienced manager like O’Neill has not done a lot better so for me the jury is still out. File alongside Eddie Howe who has done well down south but failed when he went north.

Stoke fans thought he was shit, I’m inclined to think his level is Lg1/ Championship in a small club as he is not comfortable working at a bigger club. Less pressure on him which he looks to struggle with.

His football is decent for those levels.

All valid stuff , but I'd give him time . It's not as if he's been managing for 15 years at 4 different clubs .

The real test would come if he managed to get Luton up close to the top of the Championship table next season - could he handle that pressure for instance . They had some poor defeats this season amidst all the good results , so he needs to iron that out .

Not many managers have a record of unbridled success wherever they go. For example Brendan Rogers failed at Reading, so using Jones’ poor record at Stoke to brand him League 1 or Championship seems a little premature to me.

Danny Cowley, Gareth Ainsworth, Graham Potter and Dean Smith are managers that have done better (don't know why the fascination with GB).

So how long do you give him and why wouldn't you base any opinion on that record?

Quite why you'd say he's anything different to Lg1/ Champ as that's all you've ever seen him do with a middling record defeats me.

Using Rodgers is a poor example as he went from Watford to Readin to Swansea and they were all at the same level.

He then got promoted with Swansea and kept them in the PL playing some very good football. Jones so far hasn't pulled up any trees in the Championship with the two opportunities he's had.

It pains me to say it but Dean Smith? Did well at Smallsall and had Brentford playing reasonable stuff. You could say that it would have been a failure not to get Villa promoted but he did and has maintained the Premier League status last year and comfortably this. He's obviously spent money but has proved that he can handle the bigger time Charlies when compared to the smaller clubs he was at before. You could say that Jones failed on that score when he moved to Stoke.

Not denying the Stoke situation at all . It failed badly for Jones , but he went back to Luton and saved them from certain relegation back to League 1 , and has followed that up with a solid enough season this year .

Dean Smith is a good example . There are not too many of them .

Going back a good bit - Graham Taylor with Watford is one of the best examples I suppose ( Div 4 to Div 1 ) .

Works with a very small Budget and gets results .

Got them promoted from League 2 to League 1 and had a lot of the hard work done to ensure promotion to the Championship when he left for Stoke .
He then came back to Luton when they were rock bottom of the Championship and kept them up when few would have given him a chance . Did quite well this season too .

Amyway , it's just a personal opinion . Always nice to see a team coming up the Divisions one by one , it's rare enough .

The lack of good British managers is a damning indictment of our closed shop management and coaching pathway rather than lack of opportunity.
