The Manager Sacked/Hired Thread 2022/23

Be surprised if an interim manager has the power to bin a semi club legend. Although the way Utd are ran you can't discount it

Not just an interim manager though, will be DoF/upstairs somewhere after end of season.

Remember Mike Walker? Pretty much universally regarded as Everton's worst manager since well, ever.

He got 20 points from his first 18 games.

Rafa Benitez has 19 from his first 18 games.
It would also be fair to say Walker had more in the bank from his time at Norwich than Rafa did from Newcastle.

I'm pretty sure I read some wolves fans wanting Rafa in

Fans like names. Definitely a fair few who would have taken Rafa (we didn't really have a manager search so a moot point. I wouldn't, I think he's a cunt, never mind his 2005 football).

Replace Saiss and Kilman with a Dutch and a Portuguese name and tell people they cost £15m. They'd say we'd done some genius work. As it is they cost £2m and a pack of Smarties apiece, and we already own them. We need a centre half!

Nobody still thinks we need a CB anymore do they? CM and a striker to take some weight of Raul are most important now surely?

Well I’d like a CM, but I don’t think we’re signing someone who is going to start ahead of Neves and Moutinho. Playing the way we do with the double pivot I don’t think we can change the style of player without a massive change In tactical set up. It would otherwise leave that centre of the pitch far too open. Only having 4 men behind the ball would leave us more open than a back 4 would.

Our issues are we can’t score. So thats down to the WBs and the forwards. I don’t think we need to sign a WB, We have think that area of the pitch will improve with the development of RAN and a better front 3 for them to cross/pass to.

We need a fit Pedro Neto and/or another forward who might actually score and then Raul/Fabio to turn up or someone else who will.

But it all depends on what the long term plan is. I think the double pivot will stay regardless of back 4 or 5

Well, we know that Bruno wants a striker and winger. So. There's that.

I still want a CB and a CM. If any of our regular back 3 go out injured/suspended/Covid for more than one game, we'd be forced to play Marcal or Dendoncker there. Or even Hoever or a very raw Mosquera if he's fit. We definitely need another decent option there.

Same with CM with regards losing any of them.

No doubt the club think we have plenty of options at CB and will only buy a decent one if they happen to come available at a reasonable price.

I've wanted a centre back with speed and mobility/ability to play in a higher line so that we can a) play closer to how bruno wants us too and b) play a back four or have the option to anyway. I still feel that way but think it's worth looking at Kilman and Coady in that way too. Mosquera is young and we need to give him time that we'd have been giving him had he been fit.

A centre midfielder who can carry the ball or run off the ball (or both) is exactly what we need. I think Bruno would be going Neves + that person but I think in ideal situation Bruno likes to rotate and change his team/plan based on the opposition a bit too.

Sanderson has a bit of pace about him, doesn't he? Obviously not the same as bringing in a proven top flight player but it's something.

I still think Mosquera is going to be incredible when fit.
