The Mental Health thread

Not to keep hammering a dead horse...

I had a very nightmarish spike in suicidal thoughts last night. A quick joint helped bring me back.

No wonder people get so enthused over this stuff, honestly.

Mate, I'm no expert but I'd think dosing yourself with weed to combat mental issues isn't a good idea....have you tried seeking professional help?

Alcohol is the one to avoid when in that state. Its a depressant so just makes things worse.

I get that weed makes thoughts we don't want go away. It's a really nice way of switching your brain off. It helped me cope with anxiety for years.

At some point though you might not want to smoke weed anymore.

I've been seeing psychiatrists and therapists for the last dozen years.

I'm taking the legitimate steps, as well. Believe you me, I wish I'd found something else that works so well and isn't, you know, illegal and stigmatized. But it works, man. It just does. And to this point isn't interfering with my life. Long may that continue.

Better that than wanting to off myself, IMO.

I don't know either. Last time I had a joint was thirty years ago! What I do know is that alcohol and depression are extremely dangerous bedfellows.
#1 reason I don't drink much these days. Will still enjoy a social glass of tequila now and then but as soon as the tipsy phase sets in I have to stop.

Strange it used to really play on my anxiety, it was never really my bag to be fair. The only time I used to like it was to level out after a club, then I couldn't get enough of the stuff.

Alan, how the hell do you have a social glass of tequila, that stuff only comes out when I'm half way there and fancy spending the night in a neighbours hedge

I always hear about tequila being especially vicious, never has been true for me. Rum is the one I have to avoid.

Scotch is my poison to be avoided. Turns me into a complete psycho. Everything else is fair game I guess, bar Campari and Advocaat, but those are issues of it tasting utterly disgusting.

I can drink gin until it comes out of my ears. I avoid spirits these days now though to be honest.

Mezcal/tequila it's all good for getting black out drunk, I am/was a bit of a nightmare with it as I used to always get the shots in.

Woke up in a field in Wales the one night after a particuarly heavy session on it.

Tequila is not just Jose Cuervo anymore. There is a growing market for sipping-quality brands. Clase Azul is over $100 a bottle and has become a popular brand for us. It is also the only tequila I have ever liked.

It's certainly a premium brand, can see its a lot more over here £150-75 although not available, then there's some silly prices for it

I like tequila/mezcal always have done, although I've appreciated its effects more than its flavours over the years.

Espolón looks an interesting drink, I might give that one a try, quite reasonable too.

Espolon sales have increased during the pandemic, and would be higher still but for constant shortages. El Jimador is now the most popular mid-tier brand, Teremana (the Rock) sells well, as do 1800 and Milagro. (Gran) Centenario is hugely underappreciated and the best value Extra Anejo comes from Cazadores. Maestro Dobel Diamante is slightly more upscale as are Casamigos and Codigo - all sell well, including to scotch drinkers.

I always enjoyed Espolon more than El Jimador, and at least in my part of Florida, Espolon was usually $20 cheaper than 1800 or Milagro. Teremana I don't think I had access to.

I enjoy an anejo but the markup relative to length of aging is ridiculous.

Yeah its looking like a bottle of Espolon or El Jimador - both around the £24 a bottle for 75cl which isn't bad
